Working on a list with a friend for the Chicago GT as mentioned in a YMTC thread earlier - I've actually done two versions of the list and I'm honestly not sure which one would hold up better. Most of the core stuff's been built for awhile (the big difference is in the HQ choices), so I figured I'd ask for feedback.

Version 1 - Tyrannical (1844 pts.)

-HQ-

Winged Tyrant
-Warp Field, 2 sets of Scything Talons, A. Glands (I), A. Glands (WS), Toxin Sacs.

Groundpounder Tyrant
-Enh. Senses, Extended Carapace, TL Devourers, VC
-2 Tyrant Guard w/ Rending Claws & Scything Talons.

-Elites-

Warriors (3)
-Deathspitters (2), Venom Cannon, Leaping, Ex. Carapace.

Warriors (3)
-Deathspitters (2), Venom Cannon, Leaping, Ex. Carapace.

-Troops-

Termagaunts (16)
-Devourers, Without Number

Hormagaunts (16)
-Scything Talons, Toxin Sacs

Genestealers (8)
-Ex. Carapace, Rending Claws

Genestealers (8)
-Ex. Carapace, Rending Claws, Scything Talons

-Heavy Support-

Zoanthropes (2)
-Synapse Creature, Warp Field, Warp Blast

GunFex
-En. Senses, Reinforced Chitin, Barbed Strangler, Venom Cannon

UberFex
-En. Senses, Reinforced Chitin, Mace Tail, Tusked, Ad. Glands (I), Ad. Glands (WS), Scything Talons, Venom Cannon.

Version 2 swaps out the groundbound Hive Tyrant for the following:
(1846 pts.)
Broodlord
-Ex. Carapace, Rending Claws, Talons
-8 Genestealers
-Ex. Carapace, Rending Claws.

Biggest reason I can see for version 2 is sheer bodies on the field or scenarios where infiltration could be a big break for the Broodlord and co.

Have at me.

1) I absolutely despise your warriors. If you're going to make them Leaping, then stick to a pure CC configuration. If you want them to shoot, then leave Leaping at home.

2) Termagants with Devourers and Without number??? What is the point of of that? You're just giving away free Victory points to your opponent without gaining anything in return.

3) Either pump your Hormagaunts all the way up, or take them bare bones. The midde of the road version you've gone with doesn't make them signifigantly better in combat, but just makes them cost more.

4) Scything Talons on Stealers? Why, why, why? Its just overkill. Spend your points to get more bodies into your army.

talons on stealers? has anybody really got that to work effectively. To many points to just paint a red target on them.

Also refer top Yakkface's "how to build a fex. I believe he says shooty is the way to go, not talons and a gun. It is an excellent read. If you drop the mace tail, tusked, adrenal glands, you can find enough points to go pure shooty. Give a fex 1 job and make him stick to it. The most effective job will be a gun platform.

Also leaping and shooting on warriors? Again if they are shooty let them shoot. Save the points and add more bodies. I count 62 models and for nids I would tend to get that higher. I also do not see another weapon on them. They need 2.

I like the way the two tyrants are built and a gun fex is a staple. Plenty of synapse and speed in the army. Some nice fire power too.

I see I was beat to some stuff by Yakkface.

Re: Gaunts
-I wanted an option with them to chew down most non-Powered Armored troops choices and that seemed the best way to go.

If I take the warriors to a non leaping, I'm concerned about synapse coverage as the 'stealers and gaunts fleet up into the field. I can't bet the Tyrant to keep them under control, particularly on a wider table. I wanted the shooting ability to help thin down numbers prior to assault to get better chances at sweeping through units during the attacks. They also do have Scything talons - not sure how I forgot to put that on there.

Re: Scything talons on genestealers - That extra attack looks good, but I can see the point. (Honestly, I think half decision came out of wanting to just do something else with the genestealer models than modeling and painting up 40,000 sets of rending claws!)

Thanks for the feedback - I'm going to sit down and think about this and probably play out a few changes.

Why are you worried about synapse for the stealers? The have brood telepathy. As for the gaunts, only 1 model needs to be within 12". Just create a bit of a tail if you find your self in that much of a predicament. The only thing that will really get out of synapse quick is the hormies. Keep them around the winged tyrant.

Ok - tweaked the list a bit - not sure I'm actually entirely happy with it, but I wanted feedback to see if I can figure out ways to fix it.

HQ - 2 Tyrants as above, no changes.

Elites

- 3 Warriors
-Talons x2, E. Carapace, Leaping

-3 Warriors
-Talons x2, EC, Leaping

These guys will go for gribbling and keeping pace with the Hormagaunts on their way into the mess.

Troops

-12 Genestealers
-E. Carapace, Rending Claws

-12 Genestealers
-E. Carapace, Rending Claws

-13 Hormagaunts
-Scything Talons

-13 Hormagaunts
-Scything Talons

Heavy Support: Unchanged for now. I know the Mixed range 'Fex is a compromise, but he's worked well in earlier playtests of the list if things got past my skirmish/sweep line, and for now I'm stubborn and wish to keep him.

The only real change if I swapped the Broodlord for the ground bound Tyrant (besides loss of ranged capability and models on the field) would be the points to bring the Hormagaunt broods to 15 apiece if I keep the Broodlord with a retinue of 8 'stealers.

I think you might want to rethink the winged tyrant. Imo you should either be making the most pimped out tyrant you can (the kind that kills Demon Princes before they strike) or you should be keeping it cheap with just wings, duel talons + toxin sacs. Taking the middle ground has no real advantages I can see. Though you could take miasma on the winged one.

Now the warriors, duel talons? why?
Rending/talons is much better. Carapace, leaping and init 5 and your set.

You play aswell split the stealers into 4 squads of 4, gives a better chance at getting good fleets and tying up the enemy a turn faster.

Why combine horms and stealers with carapace?

I can see the scuttling spines/stealers
or the
Horms/gargs/naked stealers combos working.

But now you are presenting a fast easy to kill target (horms) first and then the slower stealers.

Imo you either want the tie up units cheap (scuttling spines) or you want your stealers moving faster with scuttlers aswell.

The Plasma Gun is a game altering force of unspeakable power

I'm not sure which ways I'm missing to kit out the winged Tyrant?

Horms - More bang for the buck, and since both will be fleeting at the same rate, the only time the Stealers might "slow down" is in the assault entry, where I'm probably going to be able to use the combat the Horms, Winged Tyrant, and Warriors create to screen the 'stealers until they enter in, assuming they need the extra time.
