The fluff for my army goes something like this -
The chapter can't replenish itself due to geneseed issue. It is suspected of corruption, and is cleared by the Ad Mech/INQ. However, they do not help to search and correct the issue with the geneseed, dooming the chapter to an inevitable death. After having multiple pleas and whatnot ignored by the Ad Mech/INQ/High lords, they decide that they will not stand for this anymore and go on their own journey out of the reach of the Astronomican, looking for something that can help them. Eventually, after years of search they find a world with human inhabitants that can(and do) help them. In return, they pledge their loyalty to it. Their armour is changed and upgraded over countless years (The technology on the world is superior to that of the 41st millenium)

What do you think? I didn't put it in Dakka fiction because I'm not writing a story, only asking your opinion on the background. Questions are welcome, to help me knock out issues that may potentially arise.

The admech orders the execution of your entire chapter for dealing with forbidden technology (and quietly confiscates all of it for future study protection). Your entire chapter is executed, their homeworld is cleansed and re-settled as a penal colony, and all records of your chapter's existence are purged. Merely speaking of such foul heretics, or even having knowledge of them, is considered heresy and punished by death.

Seems like a good idea to me. Do they have a name? Or maybe they change their name when they find the planet. Also, what legion is their geneseed from? Probably not Ultramarines, I would guess, as they have pretty good geneseed.

Little things like this fluff really help bring an army to life. Are you going to flesh it out by adding a few character names and the like?

I wanted the "out of reach of the Astronomican" to show like the 40k-verse has mostly been left behind them, because they're almost out of the galaxy...

I'm still deciding on a name for the chapter, both the before an after. Ah, I haven't given much thought to their progenitor yet, thanks! Yeah, I'll eventually add names to characters and stuff.
