Well, I had a few minis that I started painting and noted that the detail was being obscured due to a combonantion of bad undercoating and bad paint layering. After reading the FAQ I bought all the items I required at the local wally world. First batch went fine. But in the second batch, there lurked an unseen foe... FINECAST!!!

My autarch has a sword that feels like it is made of rubber now.

Lesson Learned... DON'T STRIP FINECAST WITH SUPERCLEAN!!

If this has been covered please disregard.

We now return you to your scheduled disruption on electrons.

That is actually surprising. I generally use Super Clean to strip resin from other companies and what I cast at home. So far I have never had any negative effects - though that would seem to indicate that Finecast is something other than a pure urethane resin compound.

Good to know all the same though as I would guess more finecast products will be entering the 3rd party sales chain and will need to be stripped.

Ive used SuperClean to strip FW stuff, think its the same as finecast. How long did you leave it in? I leave my stuff in for 18-24 hours and have never had a problem.

I don't think it's the same type of resin at all. Finecast feels softer than the FW stuff, even if they're packaging them in a similar fashion now. It might have been hearsay or just a corporate line, but wasn't there somewhere that said they're different resins?

I had a similar experience with simple green, but after rinsing off the models in question ( a bunch of necron hq's) and letting them 'dry' they firmed up again, i am not sure what the deal is with finecast, as i have stripped everything from lead to puter, plastic and resin with simple green and it was fine, but something about these chemicals seam to soften the finecast resin quite a bit.

I would suggest letting it rest for several days, i didn't touch them for a month so i am not sure how long it took them to re-harden, but they did. I hope this helps.

You may use anything I post, just remember to give me credit if used somewhere else.
