Help me clarify something that came up in a game earlier against my Space Wolf buddy, and double check my math....

Cadre Fireblade's Volley Fire allows an additional shot to pulse rifles and carbines in 'the shooting phase' as long as the Fireblade's and his unit did not move in 'the movement phase'

Since it doesn't specifically define it as 'your' movement/shooting, does he grant this on your opponent's turn, ie overwatch?

My friend said no, but I think he was just scared of the 60 incoming S5 shots at BS 4...

Near by pathfinders with marker drones scored 3 hits of supporting fire, ethereal who invoked Storm of Fire on my turn, 12 FW+2 Gun Drones+Fireblade at 4 shots each within half range with both Volly and Storm...or am I missing something and it wouldn't be 60?

Overwatch is in the assault phase, so since the rule specifies shooting phase, seems like you cannot do this in your opponent's turn.

Yeah, that's just basic.

"Suffering is Faith, Faith is Strength.

Generations have suffered with the same devotion that we can offer but once. Still, our Faith leads us through these dark times like a beacon. It will guide us to triumph over these abominations. Either by breaking them upon us like waves against a limitless, golden peak or by thrusting through them like the spear of the Immortal Emperor Himself." - Cannoness Aoife, Order of the desert rose #Yesallwomen

Except *all* shooting rules refer to the shooting phase, including the ability to shoot any weapon. So either no shooting rules work on overwatch, or they all do.

Specific over general in this case. You have the basic shooting rules, which all refer to the Shooting phase. Then Overwatch tells you that you use normal shooting rules with the exceptions listed, one of which is that you're shooting in the Assault phase instead.

Volley Fire is even more specific in stating that you use it in the shooting *phase*. So - no, can't use it in overwatch. That also means it'd be no good for Interceptor either.

Again, it isnt more specific, it is exactly as specific as all shooting rules which talk about the shooting phase.

Dude, you literally just posted evidence for using the system on over watch and then said that you can't. Based solely off what you posted, it can be used on over watch.

Lots and lots and lots.

There are several Tau things that occur in "the Shooting phase" that explicitly state they do not work on Overwatch. That makes this, with no explicit exception, at least ambiguous.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.
