I am playing my first game against DA tomorrow and i understand that Deathwing Knights have special rule where they can upgrade their attacks to S10...."Smite" or something.

I know that MSS can be used to force specail rules like Force Weapons and the necron player can chosoe whcih weapon. Can the Necron player also choose to activate this Smite thgin using MSS as well?

I dont know if it's a piece of wargear or a rule or what so i really have no idea.

There was a lengthy thread a couple of months ago...with this exact same title. Check here for the discussion:

All models must choose to use it, or none can, so personally I dont think one model (MSS'd) CAN force the decision.

There is a rather large thread on this that your search-fu should be able to find

The 1st model that makes an attack with this rule has the option to use it and the rest of the squad follows that choice. So if the victim of the MSS is that model, then yes you can activate the rule.

Similarly, if i chose NOT to activate it, then the rest of the Knights squad can't either - that might be more useful.

Except the actual rules say the whole unit has to make the choice to use it, not that one model forces the rest

There is no "first model", as they all have the same I

One to avoid this is to just challenge with the sarge, he doesn't have the option to activate, so he can't force the squad.

If it's of utmost importance to not have Smite activated, you can refuse the challenge and still affect the enemy model with mss. Otherwise it's a good 1 use counter tactic.
