Need Recruits!
In about late May I'll be starting an Only War campaign in Modesto California. I want to get some more scenery painted. And boy do we have a lot of scenery and minis! I've been collecting
40k stuff since 1987.
Repeat: I have a lot of minis and scenery. There will be no Coke Can "Plasma Generators" or shoebox "counts as" fortifications. Can't guarantee it'll all be painted, but a lot of it is. My gaming group is getting old and crotchety. I'd really like to meet some new people and get some actual playing done instead of getting side-tracked into which Captain was better, which bullet caliber is better, retelling every scene in the new Dredd movie etc. Not that I don't like BSing about that stuff, but sometimes I just want to get out the trusty M36 Lasgun and shoot something.
I have three locations willing to host. The local comic book shop (noisy and only available on Wednesday), the local hobby shop (who has table room but never actually hosted games) and my garage (large table, tolerant wife). I prefer my garage, as that's where all my cabinets full of scenery and minis are, plus the wife makes cookies, goes and gets pizza etc. But if the group wants a public venue that's fine too.
Schedule flexible, I prefer bi-monthly on Saturday or Sunday. Whatever works best for the most people.
Never played before? Not a problem.
Can't make every session? Not a problem. Guardsmen come and go. Sometimes their wives insist on a 3 day liberty pass. It happens.
Kids? Kids are fine, but they have to play because my wife refuses to babysit. If you have a kid who wants to get into gaming (or already is) we'd love to have them. Must be old enough to resist the temptation to jam their mechanical pencils repeatedly into my custom 4x8 gameboards though and not "melee" with my lovingly hand-painted miniatures I flew all the way to England to get.... (Cough) We're experienced with younger players, as you can probably tell.
Seasoned Vet? Hope you like retro
40k equipment and references...we even have TWO painted early Forgeworld/Armorcast Titans for objectives.
Don't have the rules? Download this from Fantasy Flight Games:
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/only-war/frpgd/Eleventh%20Hour_Revised%20Final%20(Low%20Res).pdf and that will get you started enough to play.
I hate that it even needs to be said, but girls are
completely welcome. I find girls make overall better players. They think of things other than shooting their way out, which I find refreshing as a
GM. One caveat though: I don't have any female
IG miniatures, but
I'm working on it. Some gamer groups get weirded out with a girl playing, but the end result is better behavior and more attention to actually playing the game! Girl gamers are totally cool by me.
I also do a lot of custom conversions, so if you show up a lot, roleplay well enough so that I actually remember your character's name, don't be surprised if I gift you with a custom converted mini of your character.
If you're interested, let me know! First session will be Regiment Creation. I have all the other games too, DeathWatch, Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, Black Crusade etc. so expect some occasional crossover adventures.
