Honest opinions

Which army do you think is more competitive now? Space Marines or Tau?

PS - I like long range shooting, but I also like the armor of the marines. Both are good...just seeing what others would choose.

Space Marines are still, and will always be, a competitive army. They seem to be the benchmark by which all other armies are drafted, since they are GW's pride and joy. Tau, on the other hand, may see good and bad times depending on the whims of this edition or that edition.

That said, you can take both. Tau and Space Marines are battle brothers with each other on the Allies matrix, so if you enjoy both they can work together (and they can work fairly well, at that)

They're both pretty competitive. That being said, I think that Space Marines are easier to play.

IMHO it comes down to collecting costs.

2 Riptides? Why buy two models when for the same price you can buy 50 marines?

For the sheer fact marines are what 40-50% if not more of the world's warhammer population i'd say go with tau.

However its all what you like to do, despite both being rather shooty tau and marines play way different. I havent read any marine dex in detail but i have a tau one and its probably the most tactically infused dex ive read. The same army that gets flattened can crush your opponent because you shot in a different order or chose to move back/forward instead of staying put etc etc. Marines are usually way more forgiving, tau kinda get crumpled if they goof up.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.
