Subject: c:sm can a tank build be possible or even remotely dangerous?

Upon spending my day watching war movies on netflix i started organizing my 40k cache. It saddens me as i see all the sm razorbacks and annihilator pattern preds i have. My question to you dakka is this, is there any way a c:sm could run and be successful with a tank based army. I do own 3 talons and bastions, FoR, adls, and 4 drop pods. Could any of this compliment a well working tank force?

Sure, why not. Just because other armies can do it better doesn't mean we can't do it at all.
One thing that helps is target saturation. So when you bring a TON of tanks, you opponent won't be able to kill all of them in a reasonable amount of time. Meanwhile you focus on taking out all of his AV fire.
Take some dreads in drop pods
Fill your FA slots with speeders or talons
HS are going to be tanks
Possibly some assault terminators in a LR. Makes for a nice centerpiece.
Troops are tacs in razors. Go full 10 man squads for the weapons. Half can sit back and cover. Or run rhinos. Or a bike captain and bike squads. Lots of ways you can go here.
Sternguard in a razor are an other option, as is a command squad if you are looking to get more razorbacks on the field.

So on the razorbacks do you think twinlinked lascannon or the hb. Personaly at my flgs i had a lot of success lascannoning everything that moved in 5th ed. Is that still a viable strat in 6th. I guess the matchup kinda dictates that to an extent though.

Personally, I'm running assault cannon on mine atm. I'm pretty happy with how they perform, on the whole.

Assaultcannons can be very effective. Good for hordes with 4 shots, and good for light vehicles (and if your lucky, landraiders) so its an all arounder. I plan on making a few myself.

Personally I've never been happy with the ridiculous point cost of the weapon upgrades on razors, but YMMV I suppose. I also don't have much experience playing C:SM; just seems to me that doubling the point cost of the vehicle isn't worth it.
On the other hand, I'm looking at it in Army Builder. It's 10 pts cheaper as an upgrade on the Razorback than on the Pred. So if you have one of each and upgrade one, you're choosing between an AC and a TLLC, or for 10 points more a TLHB and TLLC. Obviously the former is better anti-armor, but depending on what kind of armies you're likely to face the superior dakka of the latter might be worth the 10 pt premium. It also makes your razorbacks less valuable targets so they have a better chance of delivering their troops.
My favorite lascannon platform for marines is still the vanilla Land Raider. Not only is it ridiculously hard to kill, but PotMS lets you split your fire (or focus it and shoot something squishy with the HB) as needed. Of course, it's not as good as the Crusader for transporting termies. I do agree with the above statement suggesting that you take a LR as the army's centerpiece, though.

I think that a C:SM mech build is possible. Will it be good, probably not, and no holds are barred against tau, since the majority of your armor will be AV11 (not enough slots for Preds). I guess a tank destroyer build would be las everything: tac squads, razors, preds, and a LR or two. Horde is almost the same: HB/AC on tacs, razors, preds, and a LRC/R. Will these kinds of builds be competitive, probably not, Since lots of vehicles aren't that conducing to being a TAC list. A more viable build will probably be bike spam with some vehicles, but mech lists aren't terrible, just don't expect touney SM mech lists anytime soon (or until the rumored 6th Edition codex).

I don't know why you would want to use tanks as in 6ed tanks are useless. I run all foot marines.

I don't find tanks useless in 6th ed as long as you can keep them alive long enough for them to make a difference. Use cover, pop smoke, provide a bigger threat, whatever it takes. If you can keep them alive they do well.

EDIT: Can the snarkiness halt for a moment frogy27? You did raise a good point, but please no snarkiness (may just be vibs, since we talking on the internet, IDK).
