Hello all, I normally prime all by orks in Citadel spray black, only problem is that its 15 bucks and when priming vehicles it goes fast.

What is a good alternative? I have 4 cans of white and 4 cans of purity seal (they had 90% off all GW products at my FLGS, I bought everything )

What brands/Products would you suggest?

Krylon, Rustoleum, Vallejo, Duplacolor, and sometimes regular storebrand primers work well. I personally use krylon, since they also sell matte and gloss varnish.

I tried krylon white and it was "chunky" and thats why I statred using the GW kind.

Did you shake the can? If you didn't, that was your problem. Or it was a bad can.

I did shake it, like crazy. It may have been because it was white, or it could have been the can (Got it from the good ol Wal-mart) so not sure, Ill look for a black even if its a little chunky for tanks and trukks it won’t matter as much as for boyz and HQ pieces.

Probably was a bad can then, or did you prime it while it was very warm?

Color Place Flat Black (walmart)..simple easy ..CHEAP..no the can does not last near as long as a can of CW .and it normally takes two coats to cover but the results are good ..(at 1/10th the price of the GW I can buy 3 cans and still save)

+1 for ColorPlace sprays. The black, especially, goes on incredibly thin and smooth (white is still decent, but somewhat chalkier, in my experience), is plenty resilient for plastics, and is dirt cheap. I almost never need a second coat, as morfydd apparently does, though. Probably a difference of technique, as I tend to go relatively heavy on a single application to save time, since the paint allows it. While you don't want pools and drips, you can actually throw a surprising amount of this paint - more than enough for solid coverage - at a model without losing textural detail. The only spots that ever really need touchups are those that no spray could conveniently reach, which I'd still have to hit by hand regardless of the number of coats.

Do keep in mind that ColorPlace, like GW's offerings, is just normal spray paint. If you're tackling metal models, you'll want an actual primer. I've had decent luck with Krylon's Indoor/Outdoor gray primer, so far, but still prefer the finish and ease of application (not to mention the price tag) of the ColorPlace for plastics.

Might try Armory primers. They come in other colors and I think green is actually one of them. I've had pretty good luck with the bone colored primer. The white was 'ok'.

Yeah, I swear by Krylon anymore.
and Rustoleum

Definitely odd that you had a bad can. Maybe the humidity? I've been through half a dozen cans and never had much of an issue.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Well a MN summer is hot and humid, It was not super chalky just not very smooth, my roomie used testors grey and that looks fantastic! GW chaos black works wonders but I pay for it :( I will defiantly try Krylon again and some of the other suggestions.
