Not really good at this but this is my first.

I have been playing space wolves for about a year now and I think I chose the complete wrong colours. Of course There is no right or wrong colours I don't think mine are suited to my liking. My current scheme Is Base: The Fang, Layer: Fenrisian grey But I am Fine with details. Any reccomendations for a new basic colour scheme(no 1:1 or mixes please)

That sounds pretty much the same as mine, though I still use the paints with the old names and used Storm Grey before the "Base coat" series of paints came out.

What don't you like about how they look? If you want them lighter in color overall, increase the layering so it covers more of the model. It looks like Ulthuan Grey would be the correct tone for a final highlight, but I'm not experienced with the new line of colors.

I have no clue what them colours are but googled them... no real wrong way of doing them mate your models and what not. Someone was asking me to do there LOTR gobins as evil looking clowns!

But to be honest most people either do them a more grey or more greyish blue... personal preference more than anything. Need anymore tips ect shoot me a PM take care and god bless bud.

If you're going for the studio color scheme, an internet search for 'How to Paint Space Wolves' should come up with something.

I don't care for the studio scheme, so can't tell you exactly which colors to pick up or in what order to use them though I'd imagine you've got the right ones.

I prefer a truer grey for mine, and use craft paints for that.

DO NOT GO BY GW!!! They purposely make it extra complicated in order to sell you a god damn ton of paint!! According to the guide above, you need 12 different paints. That's NOT including all the other paints I see, like...
black for sword and joints
steel for sword, knife, etc.
white and off-white for the bone, teeth, purity seal,
green and light green for lenses
4 different reds for the red shoulder pad.
2 browns for the pouches.
etc, etc, etc....

Do you prime your models white or black? It might be worth buying a single pot of paint from a different range, instead of using 4 different GW paints to get the armor color you're looking for.

While I agree that it's not always necessary to use this many colors, that's how they do all the shading and what not for the studio scheme. Using one color for armor will work, but also makes it one dimensional and lacks depth.

At any rate it tells you the colors they use, in which order they use them. When I watch painting tutorials or read stuff like the above picture, I don't go buy every paint necessarily, just hat I need to achieve the desired look. Sometimes that'll mean every paint a painter lists. I base that decision off of the desire I have for the finished model, not some perceived scam theoretically run by a supposed big bad corp. it's painting, not politics. This is a thread about which paints are used in the SW scheme, not a 'GW is bad for trying to sell me stuff' thread.

Maybe instead you can offer advice for the OP on an alternate scheme?

Also, for the OP:

If you feel things are too bright, a wash of Nuln Oil or Agrax Earthshade will darken things up, as well as run into the creases on the armor to give it more detail. Same goes if you end up a little heavy on the highlights. Glazes will work well too.

I use army painter wolf grey, then use a black wash for weathering and adding depth, then highlight with fenris grey (i think its called that anyway, im never sure any more with gw).

It is a quick way to get the base colour down as army painter do a spray in wolf grey.

They are a bluey grey colour but i wanted a blue army rather any just grey.

When you can't see the drunk guy at a party, you should look for the nearest mirror.

Wow I was suprised I got so many replys thanks everyone. I have stayed with my usual scheme but I changed the fang for Administrum grey, the colour looks more full Arjac is amazing compared to other models. I could only get one good photo(bad camera) sorry picture won't come up properly [ but I only used the games workshop painted models as a guidline I chose all of those paints myself.

The lighting is pretty severe, so it's hard to see him. Hopefully you can get some up of the rest. Glad you found something that works for you!
