I started a thread just a few days ago asking some questions about a ravenwing/DA army I could start. I'm still kind of at a loss as to where to get back into 40k. I have had orks to probably 5k points or a bit more, I had tau blood angels/spacemarines and daemons. Because of the game stores in my area it was OVERLY hard to get any kind of play time and spending as much as I was to play maybe once a month just wasn't cutting it. (Other obligations came into play as well) My fluff aside I kept reading 40k I kept checking in with dakka I stayed with my miniwargaming and BOLS subs on youtube. I read and check up on everything but now a new store has opened up in my area that's really pushing for more 40k and it's about a 15 minute ride vs an hour. But, when I got out I sold everything I had so now I have to begin anew. I've been looking at the tau and the dark angels and even chaos =) but I just can't seem to decide on an army. I really loved my orks in 5th especially the 180 boys charging up the field or the 4 wagons packed to the brim with nobs running people down. Now it would seem that 6th has changed all of the close combat rules I'm used to. I know that my boyz weren't nearly effective enough slogging up the field and not having some kind of fast attack or a huge vehicle or just a target that you can't resist while you got troops into place. I had necrons shoot my entire army to death with me killing MAYBE 2 necrons the entire game. Granted, I'm still new by all accounts but it was just a thrashing I won't forget. My question is, (after all this rambling and fluff no one cares about) where would you guys suggest? What's an army that's not one sided like that tau that's competitive? I know the tau are meant to shoot and cc isn't their thing but I do enjoy fighting I enjoyed shooting but there's always something great about slaughtering the foe you ran down. I've read probably 40 space marine novels and I stay as far away from the imperial guard/inquisitor stories as I can. I just don't know what I really want, I like the idea of chaos but I feel like their new dex didn't give them anything other than the rhinos for troops and you spam heldrakes. Totally unsure of where to begin with things, I like the idea of the ravenwing but I've done the bikes I tried the blood rodeo (for those of you who don't know that's http://kirbysblog-ic.blogspot.com/2010/07/my-blood-rodeo.html army list) it was fun to paint and simple enough that I felt like my army looked....decent. I guess I'm asking what army in 6th you enjoy painting collecting and playing, and of course! WHY!? =) I know a lot of people put these threads up and constantly ask but I'm kind of at a loss. I guess I should be asking specifics like is chaos a decent army? How competitive are they? Can I take fun units and still win?

My local store is about to start an escalating league, I'd love to get in on it but I'm totally in need of some help with where to even begin. If you can help a friend out, please do! Thanks for anything you can help me with =)
