Are there any really good books with Tau as the main enemy? I am also looking for Necrons.

My Favorite so far is 15 hours.

Does it have to be as main enemy?

Last Chancers- Kill Team, I think, by Gav Thorpe- It's a good read, just some of it may not make sense if you don't read 13th Legion. It was written as a companion for the grand unveiling of the Tau race a while back

Necrons as the main enemy can be found in ´Dead Man Walking´. Death Korps of Krieg is on the human side and it really is a decent book

There is an imperial armour book with the tau as the main "enemy" if you look at it from the imperium view. The fluff/pics and such in the IA books are usually pretty good but it is not a novel by any means.

As has been said the deadman walking is pretty good read and is a novel. It can be tough to find though.

If you want more campaign books forgeworld is also releasing a DKoK vs necrons campaign.

I've yet to read one, but I haven't gotten around to the Last Chancers novel. There's also a Ciaphas Cain novel, For the Emperor, that features the Tau but that's another "on the backlog list" of books I've yet to read. I haven't read any of the newly released ones yet, either (you may see a rather unhelpful pattern emerging at this point ) but Kroothawk recommends Fire Caste, but apparently The Greater Good is a waste.

Now, time for something useful: you can safely skip the Damocles Crusade trilogy by Andy Hoare (Rogue Star, Star of Damocles and Savage Scars) and Courage and Honour by Graham McNeill. Out of your "Tau as enemies" and "really good" criteria, they only meet one of the two. They're more in the "badly written" and "bolter porn" category.

Homebrew Imperial Guard: 1222nd Etrurian Lancers (Winged); Special Air-Assault Brigade (SAAB)
Homebrew Chaos: The Black Suns; A Medrengard Militia (think Iron Warriors-centric Blood Pact/Sons of Sek)

I don't care what anyone says, any book where a Baneblade explodes with 20+ Tau vehicles gets my stamp of approval

Beside Courage and Honour I don't remember other books with Tau, but I do know some with Necrons: The Fall of Damnos from the "Space Marine Battle Novels" series and Hammer and Anvil with Adeptus Sororitas. Be warned, this last one turns "Newcron" haters into complete ANGRY MARINES because a certain Necron used the term *gasp* MILADY. (No, seriously, one dude in my FLGS was almost simmering with rage)

Isnt it there a book where they need to team up with the Tau because of the Tyranids?

at least they start as enemies, but i think it was a space marine chapter and not imperial guard.

There's always the first Cain book, I forgot its name though...

Spoiler:
Although, spoilers, they end up being primarily a political rather than military enemy in the end, as the real enemy ends up being Genestealers.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

The book "Fire Caste" recently came out which features Tau as the enemy. It was a pretty good read too.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Yeah, I *think* that's the aforementioned For the Emperor, but as I've yet to read it I'm not certain.

The Last Chancers is good like someone above said, the middle book in it has the tau as the enemy.

Fire Caste by Peter Fehervari, and For the Emperor by Sandy Mitchell. Honorable mention to For the Greater Good, (also by Mitchell) where the Tau put in a cameo appearance. The beginning of For the Greater Good is the most extensive combat scenes featuring Tau I've ever read. (And the author does a damn fine job of making the Crisis Suits seem pretty fearsome.)

I'll give a second to this book. Not great but still a good read.

BAO 2015 : Best Space Wolves.

The best battle plans are the simplest. Just run forward and punch your enemy in the face.

The last Cain book to come out also features Tau, though again, in more of an allied to Guard against nids situation.

Wasnt 15 hours about imperial guard vs a massive ork army? Been a long time since i read it though....

The new book Shadowsun is about Tau,.. though from their side... not against them... I have yet to read a novel where one fights against them.

I enjoyed the ultramarines series - they've fought both tau and necrons.

Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

Courage and Honour is Ultramarines vs Tau.
