Im looking at running two storm talons to support my deathwing. Yes I know they arnt in the dark angles book but they are in the black templar book, space marine and blood angle book i think. I struggle right now with anti hoard/hiding tanks. Also they kind of fit with my fluff of my army, im running my deathwing as deathwatch thus would be able to bring in some fighter support and model the marines as death watch who look boss.

So now down to my question, to run allies and get the storm talon (I am not going to buy storm ravens sorry. yes i know they are good but just no) or should I man up and run the nimph dark angle fighter?
For the allies I was planning on running a cheap HQ and some marines or sniper scouts for backfield objective holding while the brominators deep strike on the enemy objectives.

Stormtalons are really cool, they are pretty sweet looking models, and with Typhoon missiles they're great at anti-horde and glancing tanks to death.

I have two. They've done pretty well in the few matches I've had them in so far. In the last game - a huge Apoc match - one of 'em even blew an untouched daemon prince off the table in a single pass

The idea of a cheap commander and some scouts sounds good too me. I like the model for the fighter but the price (points and dollar wise) are too steep. also im a sucker for assault cannons and whats better than one assault cannon....two of course. Im planning on using them as mostly beefed up landspeeders and not AA models.

One problem-you can only have one FA slot for an allied detachment, meaning you can only take one.

Shoot, forgot that the allied force org isnt a direct copy of the main one.

Since it seems like people have used them and like them, What do you think they excel at the most? From their loadouts that Ive seen their AA potential isnt great but their tank hunting skills are good and anti light infantry are good too.

What's the difference between tank hunting and AA for a flier?

You take Typhoon missiles and the assault cannon for good multi-purpose anti-tank and anti-infantry. Plus anti-air on top.

Its the best build there is.

ok that was what i was thinking of. The heavy 3 st7 ap 4 rockets didnt seem like a good buy for the points cost.

100% agreed. Other loadouts might work better IF you knew your foe, but in a blind list (as all games should be), TML is the way to go

After the release of Death form the Skies, i believe Skyhammers are the way to go. Typhoon seems terribly overcosted for +1 str but one less shot and range.

I just leave the Heavy Bolters on mine. Much of the time you'll be flying over enemies to fire into their rear armor anyway, so the secondary weapon won't get a chance to shoot.

No, Stormravens have PotMS. Stormtalons don't.
