Tactical marines squad from AOBR. I'm not happy with the highlights, crappy detail brush - the rest was my inexperience. Any suggestions for top quality detail brushes? I feel it would help me a bit.

Critique welcome!

Dude, I've seen far far worse to be honest. The shading on these is much better than most mini's I've seen at local clubs.

As for better brushes, I recommend you get to an actual arrt shop and get yourself sable brushes and follow the instructions on how to take care of them. The lack of brush care is accountable for more dodgey paintjobs than people care to admit to.

The shading is very good, but I'd work on adding more highlights though.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Very nice work, I think you did a great job on the gold and the highlighting you used to make it look brilliant and metallic.

From these pics, I'd say you're off to a pretty solid start . Even coats, good shading, no visible mould lines. Not sure if the barrels are drilled though - but that's easily rectified if they aren't so no biggie

Besides the highlights (which you have already mentioned) the only thing I could mention is the squad marking could be picked out in a contrasting colour. I'm assuming from the red/black scheme that you're using Blood Angels as a reference, so I'd suggest using the colour of your chosen company for the tactical "arrow".

Beyond that, it's just about practice.

Looking forward to seeing more from you in the future.

Solid models, they seem a little plain imo, not enough highlights, just seems like a red blob at a glance.

Great coverage on the paint dose not look all goopy. really like the work you did on the sgt's head.

To many unpainted models to count.

Yup great start there dude. More highlighting and color contrast will make the model. As to brushes I use 20/0 "Princeton art &brush CO." monogram sable brushes. They are found at most art stores, READ BRUSH CARE INSTRUCTIONS. Never leave the brushes in your paint water as the tip will bend and deform as the water soaks in. Hope this helps, please post more of your work, you have a great start!

Just forgot what I was going to say.

Very good start 8).. they are pretty clean looking and the shadows are looking good. As for a brush I'd recommend

Plaza Art Supplies also carries them if you have one near you. If not I'm sure you can find them at a local art store. best Brushes I've ever used.

Keep up the good work man!
