I have been rereading the rules manual since I haven't played in a while and have never played 6th edition. I have also seen a lot of complaints about overwatch; how powerful it is or whatnot. What I don't understand is (am I missing something) why are people all that upset. I play Blood Angels, Ork, IG, etc... and where as stated before have never played against overwatch in the new rules (or even played the new rules) I just don't understand. Maybe there was an errata that I cannot find or something.

As stated in the book on page 21...All over watch shots are taken as snap shots, and snap shots on page 13 state that you have a BS of 1 for these shots and that no template weapons or blast weapons can be fired in snap shot.

So why do people state that Ork Burna's can overwatch their burnas? And why do people think it is broken and overpowered (paraphrasing).

By my guess if 10 assault marines charge 30 orks; the orks get 60 shots. out of those 60 shots an average of 10 will land, and of those 10 that land only 3-4 will wound, and of those 3-4 that wound, on average 2 will be saved. Ending in 1-2 wounds that need to be taken on the marines.

That is the best case for orks, most other armies will be hurt more that that, since they wont have that many shots to take...

Read the "Wall of Death" rules for overwatch with regards to flamers.

Since the rest of your question is answered, I thought I might pipe in to answer this.

Overwatch is rarely actually about the casualties themselves, and more about reducing the charge distance of the enemy unit (with some exceptions, like Wall of Death or Supporting Fire). If a squad of Marines loses two men, that's a couple of extra inches that they usually have to move when making their assault, making it more likely that they'll fail. Losing one or two models before they even get a chance to attack can also be pretty painful - especially if those models are expensive power armoured models, like Vanguard Vets, Grey Knights or Khorne Berzerkers.

Indeed, overwatch is a case of throw enough sh*t at a wall and some will stick.

I've lost terminators to a spray of laz fire from guardsmen. It can hurt but only in massed numbers.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.
