The standard is:
4 Black Orc
4 Blitzer
2 Lineorc
1 Thrower
3 RR
Coming in at 990. Pocket the extra 10k and save up for an Apothecary. It can be pretty difficult to skill up Orc players in a league, so you're going to want to be able to save the players lucky enough to accumulate SPP.

I agree with the above with the amendment of you might consider switching a couple blitzers out for linemen to get the money for an apothecary if you know you are gonna to play some bashy teams prominantly. The last thing you need is the Blacks and the Blitzers getting killed after they've gotten some XP for themselves in the first couple of games.
I have NEVER bothered with a troll and goblins. Not saying you can't try it, and other people have had success with the additional of a troll in the center, but I have faired just fine without and my record spoke for itself.
Orcs really are the do it all team. They can slug it out, run the ball, and even get some pretty nasty passing opportunities once those blitzers and thrower get a few skills on them.

Doesn't hurt to get the video game just to get a feel for what kind of maneuverability you can expect from the Orks either.

bbtactics.com is something you might wanna check out, they've got good tips on team tactics, individual players and starting rosters.
This gives some nice options with explanations as to their advantages/disadvantages.

Get two throwers , one for general offensive play and one for just passing , that way when you have a two turns left in the half ,your hail mary actually has a chance of going off.
Also dump off is a fun skill

Your Black Orcs want Block, Guard and not much else. Since they're slow to skill up, you'll have a long time before you pick up a second skill anyway. The standard is typically 2x Block BOB, 2x Guard BOB. Using these guys as the 4 corners of a cage makes for one very hard nut to crack. Block means they can hit reliably, and Guard means you should often have the upper-hand in the blocking game.
Blitzers can be used as your ball carrier (when the Thrower's out of position), or your safeties, but most the time they will be your best ranged offensive players. I will usually give one Tackle ASAP (since Orcs are pretty susceptible to dodgy teams...and Blodgers are damn annoying), then later Mighty Blow to make sure whoever he hits stays down. I'll often throw Guard on another Blitzer to support the Tackler (and because a mobile Guard piece can be very useful coming out on top of a big scrum).
A less conventional choice for a Blitzer would be Sure Hands.. I find it helps a lot since 1 Thrower can only cover so much of your half. Orcs want to establish possession of the ball immediately, so if a kick-off scatters out of the Thrower's range, you won't really have time for him to toddle over toward it at 5 squares a turn. You also don't necessarily want to use a team reroll turn 1 just to get the ball in your Blitzer's hands. So Sure Hands is great to have. Just don't mix roles too much. You generally won't want your Tackler to have Sure Hands since he should be out Tackling and not messing with the ball.
Your Lineorcs don't necessarily need any skills. A lot of the time, they'll just be standing on the line taking hits, so I find my Lineorcs skill up only through taking MVP and very-very-rare casualties. The only skills I would consider for them are Block and Wrestle, with a preference for Wrestle. Often my Lineorcs wind up tying up the opponent's big guys or other key players, and the occasional chance to wrestle them down can be invaluable.
Your Thrower should get Block. Some of the passing and agility skills are tempting, but Block is king. People are going to get sick of hitting AV9 to no effect all game, so after awhile that Thrower's AV8 begins to look really juicy. It's also likely he'll be your primary ball-handler, and will take even more hits because of that. So Block will help shore up the Thrower's survivability a good deal. It also gives him a bit more options when you're playing defense. He wants to stay near the ball in case there's a chance to pick it up, but that can mean standing around exposing himself to hits. With Block, the Thrower can now do some hitting of his own.
Hope this helps.
