Assuming one took the Tau fighter with the quad ion gun, this is a turret which can fire 360 degrees. According to the BRB the picture defining the 360 degree LOS is everything around except directly on top or under..

However the issue is if the target is straight ahead where the guns would have to shoot through the main fuselage ( assuming the craft was flying straight toward its target),
is this a violation of rules to fire at a targer?
Or is there a need to 'forge that narrative' and assume the aircraft has taken an upward pitch prior to firing its weapons so that its guns can have a clear shot....Since these things are actually supposed to be flying.

Cheers

It would be unable to shoot through itself, you go off of the model so if line of sight can not be traced from the barrel of the gun to the target because something is in the way you can not shoot.

You should never assume that the vehicle changes its pitch to adjust for TLOS, it is modeled and mounted on it base in a certain way.

And if the fighter mounts like all other flyers depending on how you put it in the flying base it typically pitches its nose either up or down. As such you just just have that flyer with its nose up and suddenly there is no issue of shooting yourself.

For competitive play, TheAvengingKnee is correct. In a normal game, though, I'd let you shoot me anyway.

You can shoot through your squad mates because it "represents the vehicles maneuvering around each other in a well practiced battle formation" but when it comes to them firing they don't know how to lift their nose 10 degrees to get something within their arc of fire. Considering RAW always has them flying in the same position I think the pilots would be amazed if they ever watched anyone do a barrel roll in a low tech bi-plane

I play nids so this makes me happy but in truth IMO it's right up their with 'hedges make some of the best armor'.

The cover rules aren't suggesting that hedges have the same stopping power as IG Flak Armour, it's an abstraction representing, among other things, an increased difficulty in targeting enemies.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).
