Having had a good look at the GW range (which I would like to continue to use as I will have a lot of it ), Death World Forest seemed the closest to the models on the box, and looks a pretty good match I think. I am planning a US force, any thoughts on whether it looks ok would be appreciated.
I know the more browny PSC spray is out soon, will try that too.

Looks pretty good! I've always wandered what the extra tank track was for too!
I'm painting my tanks with GW paints too so don't worry!

Thanks dudes
Incidentally, does anyone know where to get any other serial number transfers (USA 3822967 etc)? I assume the BF ones all have the same 4 numbers, I'm going to need more than that

Hey man, thats a very nice picture. I'm in the same boat as you, starting a US tank force and using GW paints. Could you post up what other colours, method etc you used?

Sure, pretty straightforward -
Chaos Black spray undercoat.
3 or 4 thin coats Death World Forest on the armour. *
Leadbelcher on the tracks, but not the middle bits, they were rubber, and on metal tools, MG etc.
Mournfang Brown on tool handles.
Baneblade Brown for sandbags for improvised armour.
Wash the whole thing with Agrax Earthshade - I will do a thinner coat next time, too much build up in some bits.
You could at this point layer everything up with the orginal colours under the wash, then highlights, but I haven't.
Drybrush Skrag Brown, then Steel Legion Drab for the mud.
Drybrush Abbadon Black on the gun barrel.
I can't do much more than that - neat job, give it a wash. I'm going to do many, many more
* I know a more browny colour is probably more accurate, but the greeny-brown looks like the paintjobs on the BF M4A3(late) box, good enough for me. Also the stars would have been blacked out on many tanks of the time, but again I'm going for decent looking model rather than historical accuracy.

Very nice, Death World Forest is quite a good match for Brown Violet.

Thanks, I think it works pretty well. The 7th Armored boxset is on the way to make a start on giving him some support.
As an aside, I watched Kellys Heroes whilst painting it, the positive waves really helped

Kelly’s Heroes is good background for anything There was an article Battlefront did ages about with FOW scenario based on the film. No idea if it's currently on their site. *EDIT* I found the unoffical 'private enterprise' list on the WI website. http://www.wargamesillustrated.net/hobby.aspx?art_id=3076

Found it on BF too, LOL, nice one. First seen in the cinema on my 6th birthday, 1977 (back when films came back if nothing good was out), loved ever since
Shelled Since Normandy Enemy repositions your artillery on a roll of 1, very good

Good stuff. With the paint conversion chart, I tried out something similar with older GW paints and it turned out pretty good as well.

Quick question - the thing on the front of the M4A3(late) that looks like a large pair of pliers/pincers/snippers - is a tool for track fixing or a barrel support, or something else? Ta.

I'm not sure but it looks like it's something to do with holding the gun in place.

I've just checked Doms site and I couldnt find any allied tank numbers. Pity as Doms Decals is my first port of call for Allied stars and German crosses.

Ta
I found Minibits, who do the I-94 range (neither of which I had heard of previously).
http://www.minibits.net/US-125-p780/
I can't actually see the numbers on the sheet, but have ordered some anyway, and tank names.
