So Commissar Yarrick was chilling with some infantry guardsmen when some Black Templars came up and started a fight. The Emperor's Champion challenged the good Commissar and kept beating him down due to his AP 3 sword and higher initiative compared to Yarrick's lower initiative. This being Yarrick and all, he kept getting back up to fight some more but then this happened.
According to the Challenging rules the two duelist are separated from the main fight so they can go at each other alone. After one of said duelist dies the challenge is over and he goes back into the main fight. But if Yarrick comes back (and as far as I could tell/read, he isn't out of combat. Just that he has to be 1" away from enemy models.) can he still attack along with the other guardsmen? Or because he was in a Challenge he can't attack at all even though he got out of it by coming back from the dead.
My opponent was convinced of the latter while I was convinced of the former. In the end, we choose (as in roll off) to say that he couldn't attack because he was in a challenge.
But what are your opinions about this? I could have read the Challenging rules wrong and I can't find my BRB right now so I can't check it up for myself.

You are both rational and emotional. You value creation and discovery, and feel strongly about what I create. At best, you're innovative and intuitive. At worst, you're scattered and unpredictable.
