Does Imohtek cause infinite nightfighting and thunder strikes (under his special rule) even AFTER he is killed and removed from play, so long as the nightfighting rolls continue? This came up and since the Necron codex says something like "an army that includes Imohtek..." It was argued that since he was included in the army it continues to happen even after he is dead...

HIWPI = No, his special rules die with him. being in reserves is still part of play. Being dead, well, isn't.
RAW? I have no idea if there is a specific rule about what exactly happens after a model is removed as a casualty rules-wise; but I suspect there will be much rage, and sad ad hominem personal comments and/or logical fallacies galore.

Generally speaking model special rules also go away when the model is removed. Some interesting FAQ points FAQ pg 7 says that rules around force selection permissions due to the particular model stay in effect after the models death. The example given is that the HQ unlocks an elite unit as troops. In the event the HQ dies, the elite unit is still troops. pg 8 says that if your warlord dies, warlord traits that confer abilities die with him. --- the pg 7 FAQ is to prevent armies from auto losing the moment their HQ dies due to a serious conflict with the FOC rules. The pg 8 FAQ is there to make sure people understand that warlord traits should be treated like other (non FOC changing) special rules. The Necron FAQ also makes it pretty clear that Imotekh is the one rolling for or otherwise using the power. If he's unavailable due to death then no lightning. Without my rulebook in front of me, unless the special rule impacts your FOC chart or otherwise states that it lasts beyond death of the model, then the rule goes away upon death of the model. This is consistent with other models (exa: Sanguinary Priests granting FNP) which goes away once the model is dead.

Before a valid argument could be made that Night Fighting could be extended past his death.
However, because the FAQ made the roll belong to Imotekh, I would have to say it goes away when he dies.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I believe that all special rules, and effects thereof die with the special character, unless the wording says something like "This is in effect for the rest of the game." As, for instance, is the case with Jokaero Weaponsmiths from the GK codex.
They basically upgrade a squads weapons or armor. This upgrade would go away when they died, if the ability didn't specifically spell out that it lasted for the remainder of the game.

There is NO SUCH THING as MORE ADVANCED in 40k!!! There are ONLY 2 LEVELS of RULES: Basic and Advanced. THE END. Stop saying "More Advanced". That is not a recognized thing in modern 40k!!!!

This. The FAQ make it so that imotekh is the "thing" making the roll, so if he is dead he can no longer roll for it.

IMO the roll for night fighting would stop, however the lightning strikes during night fighting would/should continue.

It continues even after his death. Just like the unit mad dok up grades to cybork bodies, keep their cybork bodies after death. And just like Ghazghkulls waaaaagh is used even if he dies.
It's a rule granted by him being in your army.
The roll is made by "You" the faq did not change that. It is also evident it is not reliant on imotekh as you do not check LOS to him, nor range to him to determine steath/shroud.
If he dies though, he would no longer be in the unit with the cryptek so you could no longer get the reroll.

The FAQ did change it. Otherwise, nothing ever gets the Cryptek re-roll because "You" roll the dice, and "You" are not part of the Cryptek's unit.

You are still the one rolling the dice for the nightfighting. They just changed it so you can reroll it if cryptek & imotekh are hanging out together.

and you roll the dice for you model's attacks, as they cant roll the dice themselves, that does not change who "Makes the roll" though.
The FaQ states that the roll is made by imotekh, and as such if there is a cryptek with the dohickey reroll thing in imotekh's unit he gets to re-roll the night fighting dice, and since imotekh cant roll dice (Because he is not able to, because he is a model) then you actually have to roll the dice for him.
