In 5th, MeltaVets in Vendettas was completely ace. Not only did you have a very powerful unit with 3 twin linked lascannons, but also a early, fast delivery system for meltavets.

I just played my first tourney at 1000 points with IG. I took a Vendetta with Meltavets inside, a manticore, a griffon, a hellhound, and a chimera with a plasma command squad, as well as a mostly naked platoon with lascannons. I lost all five games, and thinking back on it, can think of two main reasons why: the threats to the armies I was facing, which were nearly all horde armies, namely the manticore, griffon and hellhound, were all not as effective as I had hoped, and also the meltavets themselves never got any action at all the entire tourney.

Game 1: Vs Gunline IG w/necron allies. Kill points style mission with the objective being to kill all the enemy troops. I completely gutted his gunline with my griffon and manticore, he killed the Hellhound turn 2 and it got no action. My Vendetta was shot down when it came in by a quadgun, leaving me with no real threat to his warriors in a night scythe, which were content to say alive and in transport and fly around killing off what was left of my troops.

Game 2: Vs Tervigon Tyranids. Objective based on the Scouring. Deep striking Doom killed my manticore turn two after it killed a bunch of gaunts and Doom wrecked my own gunline. Flew my Vendetta in and killed a Hive Tyrant turn 2, and flew it over to the back field to try and drop the vets on an objective held by a few gaunts. The game was going to end next turn, and I wanted to fly the Vendetta over to contest the other backfield objective, but the vets killed themselves with gravchute insertion.

Game 3 vs Old Tau. Relic. Hellhound destroyed Turn 1, Griffon stunned, manticore went way off target. Tau forced a morale check on the blob going to get the relic which forced them back long enough to hide it behind a building. Vendetta came in on Turn 3, went into hover mode to kill some deep striking battlesuits. Game ended Turn 4 before I really had a chance to get good position for the vets (not like meltavets would have done much against a 30 fire warrior blob anyway)

Game 4 vs CSM with two heldrakes and 40 cultists w/ Dark Apostle and a bunch of oblits. Relic again. Dawn of War deployment. Oblits took out hellhound turn 1, griffon and manticore put a bit dent in all the cultists, but gakky rolls made the overall damage minimal. The Vendetta opted to stay back and shoot down both helldrakes before they roasted my advancing troops, which they did, but the cultists themselves already had the relic.

Game 5 vs Space Wolves. Objectives. Meltawolves dropping in killed Manticore Turn 1. Krak Longfangs killed Griffon. Icarus Lascannon shot down Vendetta. Not a good game at all for me.

Anyway, my point is, with fliers coming in Turn 2 already, AND having to go into hover to safely drop troops, the troops themselves only seem good for a last-turn objective contest. By the time the vents come in, anything that NEEDS to be meltaed is nearly always dead, and if it's not, has already done its job. How do you use Valk and Vendetta's transport ability safely?

The most obvious change is that now you don't use melta vets in them (unless you want late-game melta), you carry either cheap scoring units (flamer PCS) to deliver at the end of the game, or plasma vets for late-game shooting to clear objectives (assuming that vehicles are probably dead or irrelevant by then).

Also, your list needs more focus. 2-3 Vendettas are better than one, and you should choose either Chimera vets or platoons, not both. Then for support the Manticore/Hellhound/Griffon combo just lets your opponent focus all of their close range guns on the Hellhound and their long range guns on the artillery tanks. Either go with an all-artillery approach (2x Manticore, 1x Griffon, moving up to 3x Manticore at higher points) or an all-close-range approach with 3x LR Demolishers.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
