Sadly I've been playing for 5 years and I have ended up playing grey knights and I have played eldar and really enjoyed them
So now we are in 6th edition I think i might need some pointers to make a all round competitive list and my biggest fear is the tyranid player other than that I will be fine
I have a rather generous family meaning when my b'day comes in June I will buy a list that we discussed here if I think it's a good list
Thanks guys( I hope I posted this in the right forum)

Well, you're in luck. I've heard many rumours about a new eldar codex being released come June.

But, things that will always be of some use are;

Farseers
Fire dragons
Guardians (though some may argue)

Many other things might end up being rubbish, or getting new models come the new codex. My recommendation is to wait till June, then get the new codex, and a box of all the new models that are released. GW likes to keep the new stuff competitive

So uhhh.
Do what I do.
Be a hipster.
Do a melee Eldar army.
Takes Banshees with Power Lances/Doomseers as primary melee units.

Win games through pure strategy and superior tactics.

I wouldn't invest in an Eldar army until the new codex drops (sometime around summer if the rumors are to be believed). It would really suck to put money into an army/units which are then nerfed utterly, or the army's playstyle changes and you find you don't like it anymore etc.

I'd second waiting, its less that 2 months now, just hang tight rather than gamble on what gets buffed/nerfed.

Takes Banshees with Power Lances

It got FAQ'd that the had Powerswords, sorry. Even if you could this is a jerk move and honestly doesn't make them any more worth using anyway... the only useable melee Eldar builds currently are Jetseer councils or Harliestars.... or DE Allies Beastmaster rush.

In the dark recesses of your mind...

Buy and paint up some Harlequins right now, and maybe Eldrad. Wait for the codex to decide what else to add.

@Hive,
My stepson has some Eldar and we are considering expanding them. I have also heard that the new Codex is coming soon. I suspect August though because I think the Space Marine Codex will be coming in June.

Nevertheless, here's my take: You may want to wear horn-rimmed glasses, smoke clove cigarettes and listen to emo with Arais (I would suggest Harlequins). Otherwise there is one thing that the Eldar will keep and that is Jet bikes. That's what I am going to buy.

Yeah new codex in june/july but a good basis to start on is if you want to go mech or footdar
If you want mech then you want war walkers and wraithlords along with DA squads in WS's and FD's in WS's go with farseer HQ
If you want footdar go with an Avatar and guardian squads maybe jetbikes and storm guardians (although these arent normally preferable)
you may want to wait for new update though because the rules will probably change drastically as last codex dates back to 2006
Hope i helped

I am hearing rumors of new bike kits, eldar flyers (of course, plastic farseers, remade warp spiders, new shining spears, plastic wraithguard...

My choice would be to wait but if you have the eary itch, I guess I would buy wraithlords or war walkers and start painting them up. Otherwise I would hold off as new kits plus new codex can result in buys that end up sitting on the shelf instead of being played.

At this point, its a toss up on most of what wil be useful in the next codex. However, Harlequins will always be useful thanks to their copy-paste in DE. They will probably remain mostly the same, if not exactly the same.

Dont start until the new codex comes out. Right now eldar are the worst codex in 40k after the 6th edition rule changes nerfed just about everything in them.

I agree and disagree. Perhaps you're right but...If the Eldar do get their new codex soon (we all know they should!) then it would be wise to already have some models that are going to be important for specific tasks; Fire Dragons, Swooping Hawks, Rangers, etc. If one planned on starting an Eldar Army, it would be beneficial because they're probably going to be boosted with the new and well needed update.
