40k and I have to say I am a bit crestfallen by it. I have run a Nurgle force for quite a while and the lack of Toughness 5 and feels no pain for my plaguebearers is quite saddening for me as lover the master of filth. I just was wondering what the overall opinion of the dex is to most people that use it and if anyone might have any viable tips for making my army better.
There's nothing really 'bad' with the new codex besides a few clarifications we're waiting for the
FAQ to likely fix. (ie: the currently useless Burning Chariot due to the 'guns' being carried by the rider meaning you can't snap-shot the template)
Nurgle is more than fine honestly.
Yes, Plaguebearers are not longer 'elite' infantry, but then Daemons as a whole really shouldn't have been so elite in the previous book. You can easily get
FnP back in your units by simply taking a Herald w/Greater Locus.
As well, the 'Daemon of Nurgle' bonus is now arguably better than the T5 of old since you now gain Shrouded for easy 3++/2++ cover saves AND you count as being armed with defensive grenades when the enemy is close by.
Epidemius now works well as the infantry anchor in a hammer/anvil style list, letting you buff your Plaguebears & Beasts to silly levels while your Nurgle
MC's, Soul Grinders, (yes, those can now be marked Nurgle and contribute to the Tally!), Plaguedrones &
GUO do the bulk of the killing.
On that note, Beasts are insanely buffed compared to their old rules, and have the rather halarious 'Attention Seeker' rule which let's you counter-assault them into any nearby enemy unit which charged you!
Plaguedrones are pretty fast being Jump Pack Cavalry unit type, and their Plagueswords now let them chew any vehicles in the game with reletive ease due to their new Touch of Rust rule. (ie: it's basically a close combat version of Necron Gauss - just keep away from Dreads!)
Your Heralds,
GUO & Princes now have access to Biomancy, so rejoice at the thought of potential Ironarm spam like Tyranids can pull!
Plus, your Heralds are no longer lame ducks in assault either since you can take an AP2
CCW for a paltry 10pts.
Oh, and Nurglings now Infiltrate which make them highly annoying tarpits!
And finally, you can give Furies the 'Daemon of Nurgle' rule too.
Daemons may not be the next big 'LolzROFLstomp' codex of doom like some people might have wanted. But overall it's a really fun codex to play with and there aren't too many 'bad' choices outside of the couple needed
FAQ issues.
