Aiming to make a competitive 2k Salamanders list and I'm sitting at 1850 now. Any help will be much appreciated, thanks!

HQ: (Total 190 pts.)
- Vulkan He'Stan

Elites: (Total 450 pts.)
- 5x Assault Terminators
> TH/SS
> Land Raider Redeemer w/ multi-melta

Troops (Total 410 pts.)
- 10x Tactical Marines (In LRR)
> Melta
> Multi-melta
> Power sword, combi-melta, meltabombs on the sergeant

- 10x Tactical Marines (In LRR)
> Melta
> Multi-melta
> Power sword, combi-melta, meltabombs on the sergeant

Fast Attack (Total 300 pts.)
- 3x Attack bikes
> 3x Multi-melta

- 3x Attack bikes
> 3x Multi-melta

Heavy Support (Total 500 pts.)
- Land Raider Redeemer
> Multi-melta

- Land Raider Redeemer
> Multi-melta

The Tactics are pretty Napoleonic in nature, LRRs are my blocks of troops and the bikes are my cavalry. I played this list extensively in 5th and my primary tactic was to advance the LRRs, flank with the bikes and force my opponent to react to me. I'll combat squad the Tac Squads, some to hold backfield objectives and some to advance in the LRRs, then use the TH/SS Hammernators to go headhunting. The army is durable as all hell imho but I'd still love to hear C&C that says otherwise and why.

Also, what should I add to bring it up to 2k?

I like the durability but I don't like the lack of any range or ability to take on flyers... The easy add to 2000 would be a couple of storm talons.

That's a lot of meltas, and while I love them, you may consider switching the meltas out on one of your tactical squads for a flamer and heavy bolter, plasma cannon, RL. That way you have at least one crew who you can send to take out bulk troop units with a little more ease.

I suppose you could switch out the meltas on one of the bike squads for Heavy bolters as well.

As a Salamanders player, I can agree with the meltas, as I find them extremely underrated by some when used as a tool to blast troops, but I always still need some flame to take out garbage bulk troops a little quicker somewhere on the list, and with He'stan, even a single flamer will do some damage.

As far as that last 150......Maybe look into some scouts? Snipers can really help out and give you that range the list is lacking and give you another RL/HB to blast through the aforementioned junk troops if need be.

@ DAaddict: Good call, I hadn't even thought about that. I'll look at them when I can find the rules.

@ Earth Dragon: Dropping the meltas for flamers is one of the moves I'd considered making myself. The Heavy Bolters on the bikes tho, I don't know about. They have twin linked bolters and I really like the Relentless multi-meltas as a threat.

Leave the bikes alone, but swap the tac squads regular meltas for flamers. maybe add a couple of speeders with heavy flamers and multimeltas. should be able to fit at least two in the3 points you have left. or you could include a vindicator with all the fixin's, and demolish bodyspam armies with that. park it between the LR's and watch people cry bloody tears when they cant get a shot on it paper maiche side and rear armors

@ OlGreye: I LOVE the land speeder or Vindicator ideas. Oh man I love those. I think I'll playtest both of those and see which ones come out on top. The only issue I can see if the Land speeders would have to be in a squadron b/c I only have one FA slot left.

The vindicator idea is positively evil. I unreservedly approve.

And to actually answer the original question, I agree with DA - flyers would be the perfect addition to this list, and would fit with the theme of high resilience. "Stuff that's hard to kill", while not a hard counter to anything, is a pretty solid counter to almost everything!

My list is very close to this. However, I don't have LR in heavy, I have Vindicators, so I can have Land Speeders and a Librarian and a Captain fully kitted out, along with drop pods for the tax squads.

@ Ixidor13, I had meant a squadron. I'm glad everyone like the vindicator/ speeder ideas.

Having a Libby with null zone hiding in a LR would make a lot of armies cry.

The power weapons on the tact sergeants is a waste, with the combi melta you won't get the bonus attack and you don't really want to be in cc with them anyways.

Getting 2 stormtalons with sky hammer missiles is only 250, maybe lose some bikes for them.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

I'm totally onboard with filling those last points with MM/HF Speeders. Usually I don't like multi-purpose units, seeing that the points could usually be used to buy more specialized troops, but this one is different.

Between the speed, survivability, and TL weapons for that little cost, it really is too good to pass up in a Salamanders list.
