Hey so i was thinking of different fun combinations to play with and i thought

20 khorne bezerkers
icon of wrath
with
7 plague marines
2 plasma guns

so would these be effective to use together or do they just not work.

tell me what you guys think.

From what ive heard and read csm is either aggressive or not. Zerkers got nerfed. Plague marines are solid possibly the best troop/elite to choose from in codex. I like the idea of 20 zerkers but i think ur better off with reg csm maybe with mark of khorne

Regular CSM with MoK and the Icon of Wrath usually come out with similar pricing in the end as basic Zerkers. I always prefer being able to reroll charge distance as opposed to the higher weapon skill.

Plague marines are one of the best objective holders in the game. Plant them in cover next to an objective or rhino drop them on a midfield one. Their durability is key, and the ability to take dual plasmas in small squads is a bonus.

For aggressive fighting I would suggest large blobs of regular CSM. Sprinkle in MoK or MoS with their respective banners. You either have more attacks and rerolls to charge or higher initiative and FNP. I even run the with no marks and just the extra CCW. Great place to put a foot lord. Of course, if you have a lot of helldrakes in your area you're pretty SOL.

The biggest downside of using the CSM with icons is that they aren't fearless (unless attached with a lord/apostle), so even with the extra charge roll or FnP they have a high chance of running on their way to the target or the most common get swept after losing combat. Anyway, the CSM are indeed better than the zerks, but if not running with a lord I'd put IoV on them instead of wrath.

I find that running them in big blobs means you take leadership tests far less frequently. They also have fairly good leadership to start off with. The sarge is LD9 which is better or on par with the majority of units in the game, and if you're really worried about leadership tests you can take VotLW for a paltry amount of points. I think people take IoV because they're still getting over the fact that their base troops are no longer fearless. It's sad to lose it, but it doesn't mean we have to bend over backwards to get it. I think a reroll of a critical charge will always outweigh not having to take LD tests if you take massive casualties.

But to each their own.
