Anyone catch the new series? I saw the first episode and it is a lot better than expected, though admittedly I didn't expect much. It is quite dark, and surprisging graphic and frank in its depiction of violence. It also seems to be more focused on the aftermath of the events then the events themselves; the killer is never really a secret or much of a focus, but the way Graham solves it, and how it tears at him is the focus. Hannibal is appropriately a side character that is simultaneously secretly menacing while also human. At the very least he seems incredibly calculated.

Spoiler:
I'm curious as to why he tipped off the man in he pilot. I think he either is trying to push Graham and see what happens, or it was just a professional courtesy from one creature to another. I recall being perplexed when he called and then when the wife was pushed out of the house with her throat slit bleeding everywhere when the FBI showed up 'gak just got real'. Yet, it ended with Hannibal saving the girls life and staying with her in the hospital until he passed out.

I think it may be to dark and paced for network TV so I don't see it lasting long. I guess the rumors are that Season 3 would end with the lead up into season 4 being Red Dragon, but I don't put a lot of stock in that. Looking forward to Eddie Izzard as a caged serial killer in the next episode.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Interesting. I had avoided it in reverence to the greatness that is Silence of the Lambs.

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

Is it on Hulu Plus? We don't have cable tv, but I'd definitely watch an episode or two to see how much I like it. Currently we're watching The Following.

Not even Hulu Plus, you can watch it free on Hulu, but it looks like it's only going to be the most recent five episodes. Irrelevant for right now, though, since there's only two.

I had been actively avoiding this because I think a big part of the allure of the Hannibal Lecter character is his innate opaqueness, that his motivations and mind really can't be understood, and I thought anything like this would devalue him. But now I've seen quite a few recommendations.

I personally love it. It`s an interesting take on depicting homicide and the acting is pretty solid.

Oh I very much enjoy this series and I'm glad to see some others here like it as well. Funnily enough I just came back to the off topic forum in like months to see if anyone posted about Hannibal...and also to kinda rage that episode 4 is being pulled due to the Boston Bombing and what not, well ostensibly anyway. At least it'll be aired overseas...

Anyway, I have to say the surrealness of the aesthetics and cinematography are perhaps my favourite parts. That and Mads Mikkelsen. Even when he just stands there without any lines he has prescence. Everyone is casted well to be honest.

They were smart and didn't make him the main character; background Lecter is best Lecter, after all. His presence fills every corner though.

I appreciate that Lecter always has meat on his plate, and he isn't there to be understood but to help the main character understand himself. I suggest it to anyone who doesn't mind some very graphic violence.

I am really liking it, its got action, well written drama,

the guy playing lector and the guy playing the main empath detective are excellent actors, they really play up the chill factor,

esp when lector is asking the empath about his own murders
