Hi all,

I've got a quick question about the Warp Storm table, which came up at a tournament I went to at the weekend:

If you roll on a 12 on the Warp Storm table, you get a free unit of 2D6+3 Lesser Daemons of your choice, which Deep Strikes onto the battlefield.

The result states "If you do not have enough models to place the entire unit on the board, place as many as you have models for - the rest are destroyed."

My question is this: If you have no spare Lesser Daemons, and as a result are not able to place any models, does this count as a Unit Destroyed for the purposes of Victory Points?

In the tournament, we were told to dice off for it (and they got first blood, which ended up deciding the game), but I can't make my mind up as to whether or not it should count. Admittedly I am leaning towards yes, it should give up the point, but I'd like to be sure.

No, because no unit ever exists

I would say yes. This is why I always have some lesser daemons of some sort around even if they are unpainted etc.

There are a couple ways to look at this.

Yes - because of the wording "the rest are destroyed".

Yes - because GW wants you to have more models.

Or we could take another potential tact:

No - because a unit could never be made up of zero models and therefore the unit never existed...

I'm leaning towards yes simply because of the wording' and concur with OverwatchCNC that the best thing here is to simply avoid the problem by getting a box of some lesser daemons to have on hand in case it ever comes up again. After all if you got lucky on the warp storm table it would certainly be nice to be able to actually drop some "free" models and if the game was that close then you certainly could have used them.

Annoyingly I actually have loads of spare Lesser Daemons, of all types, but I only had time to paint the ones I was using as Troops. If I'd thought about it, I would have brought my test Horror model, and simply dropped it completely out of danger so as to avoid giving up the point.
