Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Before I kick off this month’s Geek Games Column, I wanted to put a call out for people who may want to become a part of this column. I’m specifically looking for someone who can focus on compiling gaming news of the month and deliver that news with an intelligence far beyond my own, which shouldn’t be too hard.
I realize I’m not the brightest voice in the world of gaming. I’m passionate about gaming, but my main focus is still movies. I would love for there to be a news component to this column, though, and could use an informed voice to bring it to life.
If you think you can be that voice, drop me an email here (quint@aintitcool.com) with your info and some writing samples. The only pay I can offer are e-hugs and throngs of admiring talkbackers ready to nitpick and tear apart every single word you type, but if you’re interested drop me a line.
So, anyone think they're up for the job? No idea if or how much it pays (probably nothing more than fame) but it might be a way to build up a resume for someone who's already doing this sort of thing.

Yeah, most likely unpaid work, and anything you write is going to be gakked on by the masses... If you think wargaming forums are nasty, you ain't seen nothin' until you have witnessed the unbridled craziness that is Ain't It Cool News.

Does this chap make money from the website? If yes, then he's a scumbag for trying to get someone do work for free, as are all employers who try that. If not, I suppose someone might consider it "experience", but would any future employers(who're actually going to pay you) see it that way?

I have no idea what the terms will be or what. It's a monthly contribution so it possibly would be paid by the word which won't really be a heck of a lot of money to be honest. Writing really isn't going to make you rich (or even provide a comfortable income) unless you somehow deliver the next Harry Potter to people.
But, if you're a gamer who's usually on top of things and can provide cogent and well written reviews then this may be a good side project for you.

Also if you start writing regular reviews that gain traction with the masses expect to start getting 'free stuff' in the post from game/figure makers who want their product featured

It should be noted that Quint is hiring for the Video "Gaming" column, not AICN Tabletop which is being resurrected by Nordling and Abstruse. Not sure if those guys are looking to bring on anyone else for the column.

I'm pretty sure he answered the 'pay' question already:
The only pay I can offer are e-hugs and throngs of admiring talkbackers ready to nitpick and tear apart every single word you type
I've already got one of those non-paying gigs - I don't need another!

As Alpharius pointed out, we know its unpaid, I'm interested in whether the guy asking someone to take on unpaid work is making money from the website. If so, asking people to give you their labour for free so you can make money from it is indefensible; a day's work deserves a day's pay.

Worth the read to learn about the rise and fall, and rise of AICN.
Short answer - yes the site makes money and some writers are (eventually) paid.
