Hey folks, I am planning on doing some modular terrain pieces to construct a new table set. I was wondering what is the very best paint/glue texture process to get an arid-dirt-plains look. I plan on drybrushing and static-grassing patches on the whole thing but I wnated to know the preferred sand or flock mix to throw on there is.

I have made surfaces before with a combination of sand spread over wood-glue, but it felt and looked a little too pebbly. Is there a sand grit size or particular mix that works best? It will be spread over pink foam, wood, and spackle.

Thanks in advance.

Fine ash, looks really odd and you cannot brush paint on it, but it turns out like fine blown sand/snow when your done.

Hmm weird, do you just glue the ash on or what?

I think I would want to go with something paintable however. Any favorite sand types out there?

I would say the preferred mix is up to you, but it's one that is repeatable in case you want to build some more tiles down the road.

Look into railroading dirt -- Woodland Scenics comes to mind -- model railroaders and scale modelers are sticklers for detail.
