I've been trying to work out some Horus Heresy character pieces for a while now, aiming to build up on them to enter into some local painting and modelling contests to give myself a goal to work towards. After a good degree of saving and planning I figured out exactly what I wanted to make and ofcourse the cost was amazingly prohibitive. Still I am nothing if not persistant so I picked up the Loken/Abbaddon kits from forgeworld and 3 of the new outrider models to work with on my conversions.
What I have so far is only rough bluetak mock ups whilst I wait for my magnet/airbrush to arrive as I intend to spend alot more time on these than I would on a standard model, in the hopes that I can produce models of higher quality than I otherwise would. The picture quality isnt great for the unpainted plastic, I do have a light box but where the models are only loosely held together moving them was not an ideal solution for initial pictures.
First up is a Sons of Horus Centurion on bike, he's made from a combination of bits from loken and the outrider models, and whilst a relatively simple kitbash I really like how he looks. There is a plan to magnetise him so that he and the following moritat can be entered as a duel on the scenic abbaddon/loken base that I have modifier suitably.
Secondly I have used components from my Loken model, sanguinary guard kits and a few other
FW spares I had in my possession to make up my blood angels Moritat. The wings visible by his feet will be attached when he's fully assembled however in a mock up they didnt take to bluetak too well.
And last but not least I couldnt resist the new Thallax models, he isnt converted but has claimed Abaddons scenic base as his own and is modelled to be climbing up over the rubble.
I am kind of hoping to enter these into golden demon this year, I'm not deluded to think I might win but I entered last year for the sake of having the confidence to put my models on show for the first time and have improved considerably since then.
