Psychic Prisoner aboard a Black Ship
|
Fellow Gamers
I have been out of the hobby since the time of 4th edition, My last armies played were Eldar and Grey Knights (No not gey knights, I was one of the few always loosing with the deamonhunter codex ) And now I am back to the hobby, I have read the 6th edition rules however only one friendly game played. I would like to get back to the tournament scene a bit, and mostly though local hobby stores (Here in Poland). The list I present to you is of models I allready posses so there cant be many changes to the model count and units. My points currently add up to 2050 and that where you guys come in and hopefully recommend the best course of action.
Any help is apreciated.
Some questions:
1. With XV88 when I purchase velocity trackers, do I have to buy them for each individual? Conversly for the steal team only the Shas'vre need the uprgrade to get the skill for the whole unit?
2. Stimulant Injectors while great, Are they worth the extra points
3. SMS over TL plasma? I have no idea which to select since they are both great depending on the situation
4. For all the drones in the army I am not sure those are the best choices so please advise
So the list:
TAU 2000 PTS
HQ
1X Commander (195)
Plasma Rifle, Cyclic Ion blaster, Multi-Spectrum, Puretide Engram, Iridium, Target Lock, Stimulant Injectors.
2x XV8 Bodyguard (164)
TL Plasma Rifle, Fusion Blaster, 2x Shield Drone
Troops
Fire Warrior team (142)
12x Fire Warriors, Shas’ui, 2x Gun Drones
Fire Warrior team (202)
12x Fire Warriors, Shas’ui, 2x Gun Drones, Cadre Fireblade
Elites
XV104 Riptide (275)
Ion Accelerator, TL Fusion Blaster, 2x Shielded Missile Drone, Early-Warning,
Stimulant Injectors
XV104 Riptide (275)
Ion Accelerator, TL Fusion Blaster, 2x Shielded Missile Drone, Early-Warning,
Stimulant Injectors
Stealth Team (227)
6x Shas’ui, Shas’vre, 2x Fusion Blaster, Advanced Targeting system, 2x Marker light drone
Fast Attack
Pathfinder Squad (233)
10x Pathfinders, Shas’ui, 3x Rail rifle, Black sun Filter, Recon Drone, Pulse Acc. Drone,
2x Marker light Drone
Heavy Support

It really feels like you need to cut some of the toys and add more boys.
5/6 missions in 6th ed are objective based. With only two, comparatively flimsy troops, it doesn't matter how much hurt you lay on the opponent. if your troops are dead and the opponents aren't, the best you can hope for is a draw.
At 2000 points are you guys playing the normal double FOC?
For your questions
1) Look at the wording of the Wargear/special rules involved. Broadsides can have intercept or skyfire, not both through support systems.
2) Stim injectors on the Riptides plus popping the 3++ shield make them unattractive targets for opponents.
3) Up to you depending on what your list lacks. With the Heavy Rail Rifle I would go with SMS.
4) Drones with the commander w/ a drone controller are BS5. Other than that, YMMV and it depends on what you want to do.
My suggestion would be to add more troops. It is my understanding (I haven't played any tourneys) that tournaments more so than book missions place an emphasis on having enough troops to hold objectives. If you are trying to get into that I would look at the tourny booklets to see what types of missions you will run. If they have quarters or have combined book missions you will definitely want more troops!
Hope that helps!

Yeah, i'm going to agree with previous poster. You need troops. I'd say 2 more troops choices (make one a larger Kroot squad for bubblewrapping your army vs assault based lists)

OP what I would recommend, and I am by no means an authority (far from it), is adding one more FW squad and a Kroot squad like LValx said.
How to do this? Without extensively changing your list, I would recommend dropping the gun drones from the FW squads, and the Shas'ui from the squad with the FireBlade.
Drop all the Missile Shield drones off the Riptides. Don't want to lose one and have a riptide scoot off the table. I would run the Pathfinder squad naked, at 110 points. You can of course run yours with a Shas'ui for the LD boost if you want. That is still 120 points instead of 233. There is 113 points right there! Moving to the stealth squad, drop their marker drones as well!
Now add one squad of 12 FWs and 1 squad of 20 kroot and 1 kroot hound (for the acute senses. Then 2 marker drones to the commander and a drone controller, to make then BS 5!
Finally drop the MSSS from the commander, if he uses it he won't be able to shoot his 30 pts worth of guns!
All told, by my maths yoiu will drop 316 points of stuff between trimming the existing Pathfinders, FW squads, Riptide drones and Stealth Suits and MSSS, and add 2 scoring troops and 2 BS5 markerlights for 265 points. 1999 on the dot, since you don't seem to be using double FOC anyways.
Changed a lot so my maths may be off, be sure to double check and adjust appropriately!
With 3 units of 12 FWs and one unit of 21 kroot you should be good as far as troops go, use the Markerlights to light up targets for your Riptides and wipe them off the board!

Great again thank you so much for the input, just before I write up the list, I am not a big fan of kroot (Mont'ka), what role would they serve? Cannon foder i presume ? is there any way of going around of this? maybe another pathfinder squad?

Groups of 10 Kroot with one Kroot Hound and sniper rifles can threaten objectives in your opponent's deployment area. Hold them in reserve, then use acute senses from the hound to make sure they come on the board edge you want. That setup is 75 points. The sniper rifle ammo allows you to threaten some vehicles/units you normally couldn't.
Beyond that, I don't like the "new" Kroot much, either. You can also not outflank them and just shoot and use them as a buffer vs assault units.

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.

I know this is quite of topic but I found the archive of GW ( http://web.archive.org/web/20070227065156/us.games-workshop.com/default.htm) the old days were good, not like today... I miss that there was an army avaible of only kroot but those were the old days... I shall write up the list
