Hey all...

I will make this short and to the point.

Unit in question: XV8 or other tau jetpack infantry
Item in queston :Standard GW ruins more specifically imperial sector.
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440312a&prodId=prod1095509
third from the right, has some floor still intact along the edges and up at the top...

Can an XV8 or any battlesuit with jetpack who is well within 6 inches of intended destination and positioned on the outer wall of the building at the start of his movement phase
fly over the terrain wall and land on the top floor?

obviously one would need to take a dangerous terrain test and make sure the entire unit can maintain coherency with the minimal room provided.

at the last game we had a bit of a disagreement as to how my XV8 can move...now I could be in the right or the wrong but I believe I am in the right since the XV8 is going up and then down...and can move over terrain...one would assume a rooftop landing would only require the test...

please help me out and correct me if I am wrong

Thanks for reading.

Well, given that a jet pack unit is assumed to be able to clear the terrain to avoid it, I see no reason it couldn't land on the roof instead of passing over it. Defiantly a DT though.

You can move 6 inches on a jump. Just like units can move up to 6 inches going into terrain. Now normally you can go 3 inches in and 3 inches up to the next level. I would let 6 inch jumps go 6 inches in and 6 inches up. Not all the way to the top.

Slight correction. You can move as far as your base type (usually 6") with Jet Packs.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Jetpack infantry have skyborn when using their jetpacks, this allows them to just straight up jump onto and over buildings, of course dangerous terrain tests might be necessary depending on where they ended/started that move.

The rules for Ruins very clearly resolve this matter, there's even a heading for it and everything.

"Remember that ... Jet Pack units ... are not hindered by difficult terrain, and move over any terrain as part of their move without penalty. However, if these models start or end their move in difficult terrain (such as a ruin), they must take a Dangerous Terrain test. All surviving Jump and Jetbike models are then simply placed within [6 inches] of their starting point, including on a different level of the ruin."

you simply measure their move in 3D space to determine if they can reach the level in question, so long as the end point is within 6" of the start point they can do it.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).
