So after buying a lot of Skaven and playing some games, I then painted Skaven until i could not paint one more clanrat, so i took a hiatus, picked up warmachine/hordes, and though fun my heart still beat with Fantasy and my Skaven so after painting for another month I got my first game in against a friend after a break, this was his third game of fantasy, and his dwarf army is still fledgling, so hopefully games will see improvement, I will have to try and get him on Dakka for some list building advice.... but speaking of the lists.

The game was 1250 and that was mainly because that was all of the Dwarfs my friend had, but I had just finished painting my plague furnace and priest so by god i was using them. The list were unknown and we found out what the other had brought as it was placed on the table, which is the purest way to do it IMHO, all we knew was what races the other was playing.

Skaven: Aka whatever Sandant just finished painting and really wanted to field
Plague priest, lvl 2, Plague furnace, extra hand weapon (The astute will notice that I am only 1 point below max hero points for this point value, and that's because i like to live on the edge)
40 clanrats with shields FC and a mortar of soul crushing disappointment
40 clanrats with shields FC and a flamethrower of I wish this could move and shoot
35 plague monks with FC plague banner and an attitude
8 giant rats and a very brave packmaster
warp lightning cannon.... you'll see

I'm not taking this list to an GT's soon but then again this is a pretty friendly game and most of this stuff was just painted and itching to see the battlefield.

Dwarfs: The glorious bearded gents
Thane with a gun a shield and the rune of luck
12 thunderers with FC and shields
16 warriors with shields FC
16ish longbeards with FC shields and the banner that causes fear, i now know that standard is outside their 50 points of banner
Cannon, rune of burning, rune of forging
Organ gun , rune of burning, and rune of reloading
A small unit of miners with a steam drill and blasting charges (Point fillers with a dream)

We played a standard getting back into the game normal deployment, beat each other down VP game.

I didn't take pictures since I don't have a good camera, and my plague monks were in a state of disrepair after a speed bump decided to ruin my day .

Deployment turned into he placed the thunderers block on the left flank with the Thane, then in the middle was the canon, The warrior block came next, nestled into a hillside was his organ gun, then on top of said hill were his longbeards.

Skaven had a clanrat block with the warpfire thrower directly in front of his warrior unit, the plague monks and furnace right in the middle, and right in the cross-hairs of his cannon and organ gun, then some more clanrats with the mortar, and on the far right flank was the rat pack determined to get in the way of his long beards.

Magic: Well i rolled the magic table with the thought of well I hope i don't get pestilent breath, and in the first of many snake eyes rolls for me this game I rolled double 1's but when i re-rolled the other die i got Wither, which was pretty okay but it wasn't bless with filth.

Turn 1 Skaven: Getting first turn was big for me as it would give me a chance to do some preliminary damage to his cannon before it could begin tearing into my furnace, all the units march forward with my mortar team moving into some nearby ruins to just in case he gets shot at, my ratpack made a big swinging move to try and get in front of his longbeards they are now in front of my clanrat unit on the right side.

Magic: Nothing is in range of my spells:(

Shooting: My cannon is the only unit that can shoot, lines up a shot on his cannon, and gets a strength 2 shot that fails to wound. :(

Combat: None

Turn 1 Dwarfs

Movement : Warriors move forward with the speed of a coursing M:3 River and cross past the Organ gun in order to get onto the same side of the board as the Longbeards, who charge down the hill straight into the flank of my redirecting rats

Shooting: Thunderers give the clanrats hell, but don't roll too hot and only kill a handful of clanrats, the cannon lines up a shot on my furnace, nails it, but only causes one wound, the organ gun rolls average for shots and only plinks one more wound of my furnace.

Magic: You mean Elf shooting?

Combat: The Longbeards are only able to get a piece of the rat unit but some of them still get to swing, and after plastering both pack masters and a few rats, it's looking like my rats will break and run straight into my Clanrats, but then the magic happens, I roll snake eyes again and my three remaining rats stick in combat.

Turn 2 Skaven:

Movement: The clanrats now looking at a large unit of longbeards locked in epic combat with three of the bravest rats on god's green earth, decide to shuffle forward and manage to actually swift reform into horde formation, the mortar edges forward, the plague monks continue their epic advance forward, while the lazy plague priest shouts encouragements, my left clanrats walk forward towards the thunders, like a slow unhorsed light brigade, their flamethrower hustles forward into a prime position to unleash hell next turn if he doesn't die.

Magic: CLOSER MONKS, GET ME CLOSER THE HORNED ONE DEMANDS IT.

Shooting: OK cannon, redemption time, it lines up a shot on the cannon fires, bounces into a strength 4 blast on the cannon that gives the crew frizzy beards, and as the onlookers to the game declared, that's going right into the grudge book, the mortar shoots at the warriors, misfires, and rolls the opponent places the template, but no units were close enough for it to land on so the mortar kills some daisies in the field.

Combat: The rats are broken and run away, the longbeards not wanting to get out of position choose to reform to face towards the furnace in the middle of the board. (All my rats manage to stay calm despite the fact that THREE rats are running away)

Turn 2 Dwarfs: Miners no-show even with the drill

Movement: the warriors declare a charge on the flank of the plague furnace... but they would need a 10, and besides with both his longbeards and my horde of clanrats in the way there's no way they could make it right, they roll a 10, and slide Tokyo drift style into the furnaces flank, the back rank of dwarfs comes so close to clipping my clanrats that the rats whiskers are most likely touching them. his Longbeards walk forward realizing that they have been left behind as the army left them as they fought rats.

Shooting: It was then that my opponent realized no he couldn't shoot at the furnace anymore so he turned all of his attention on the far left side clanrats, who after eating thunderers, flaming grapeshot and an organ gun, were not looking too healthy but they manged to stick around, (At this point my foe had yet to lose a single dwarf and my rolling, though great for leadership was beginning to seem comical).

Magic: The Dwarfs briefly discuss how cool cannons are.

Combat: Monks pop their banner in an attempt to win combat and not lose their frenzy so early, they mange to cause a healthy amount of wounds, but my opponent rolls saves like fire, and only loses a few warriors, they then kill a few monks back, I lose combat, The monks are unbreakable and manage to make their combat reform so the furnace is now facing the warriors and can start doing its thing.

Turn 3 Skaven: Ouch losing my frenzy hurts but at the same time my opponent has made a huge mistake charging those warriors with my clanrat horde right next to them, and he is about to realize how badly he just goofed.

Movement: My far left clanrats make a long charge into his cannon and prepare to have their vengeance, my clanrat horde makes their charge and slams into the rear of the warriors who are now sandwiched between a furnace and a hard-place.

Magic: It is time, i get wither off on the warriors (As if they weren't screwed enough already) my smelly breath gets dispelled.

Shooting, my cannon fires, doesn't misfire, rolls for the strength and THEN misfires, meaning no cannon shot . My mortar kills 2 Longbeards, and then my Warpfire thrower, rolls a perfect distance, the perfect shot, and roasts a ton of thunderers, who mange to make their test and stay on the board.

Combat: Despite killer saves the warriors are ground down, and the now not frenzied monks get to reform to face the long beards, and the clanrats un-horde themselves to make room for the furnace and get a greater distance from the longbeards. The cannon falls to clanrats, who flubbed their attacks but still win through combat rez, the cannons crew then fails leadership and runs off the board.

Turn 3 Dwarfs:Miners show up and initiate a stare-down with the clanrats, they were going to go after the cannon but it hasn't proved to be a threat.

Movement: Longbeards charge the flank of the right clanrats despite the distance, his thunderers turn to face the clanrats and shuffle backwards a bit

Magic: If you count miners arriving as magic...

Shooting: The organ gun takes my furnace to 2 wounds remaining.

Combat: My clanrats must have been in the middle of switching their weapons for the weapons of dead dwarfs because they flubbed their attacks, the long beards then paint the grass red, the clan rats break and run, his Longbeards turn to face the Furnace like Men...er, Dwarfs.

Turn 4 Skaven: Clanrats rally

Movement: Furnace charges the Longbeards who hold... those glorious bearded Dwarfs, the right former coward clanrats hustle forward, the left clanrats charge the thunderers and make it in.

Magic: I manage to breath all over his Longbeards, killing 2, my attempt to wither was dispelled.

Shooting: My cannon shoots the organ gun... And gets strength 10 , wounds, and then gets only 1 wound. . my mortar shoots at the organ gun and scatters.

Combat: The Longbeards and the thunderers are broken and run down.

Turn 4 Dwarfs:

Movement: The Miners charge my clanrats who were now showing their backs but fail the charge.

Magic: Nothing to see here folks

Shooting: Organ gun misfires and Blows up

Combat: none

Turn 5 Skaven:

Movement Clanrats and Furnace make the charge into the miners who manage to kill 6 clanrats with their blast charge stand and shoot. My cannon and mortar move towards each other in order to exchange notes on being useless.

Shooting: None

Magic: I don't bother as we are running low on time

Combat: The miners live to swing and put one more wound into the furnace, but lose combat and die for a tabling.

after losing only the rat unit and tabling the Dwarfs it is a

Crushing Victory to the Skaven

When you roll doubles, you don't have to reroll one of them, you get to choose any spell. In this case, you rolled double 1s, so you could have the 1 spell and any spell you want, or the signature spell and any spell you want.

Hey that's pretty neat, it would have led to less "push me closer I have to breath on them"

Love the report, a sad day for the dwarfs and many grudges to be entered in the book indeed!

Seems the game came down to maneuvering more than anything else, well played for managing to gang up on your opponent's units.

Let your opponent know unfortunately you can't put runes on organ guns, sadly.

Also, when you rolled doubles for spells, you now pick the second spell, you don't reroll.

Sandant you are utterly hilarious! So much so that I just registered pro style with Dakka for the sole purpose of sharing this comment with you! Good on yuh, mate. Keep 'em coming too. MOAR

Thanks man, I wasn't able to get a game in this week due to work, but next week I will try to play on Friday and I will post the report regardless of results. Though both my dwarf friend and I have some goodies arriving via mail soon...
