Wherever they tell me

Morning Dakka,

So I'm not at all familiar with how to build a Chaos Marine army, but I'm going to be teaching a friend of mine how to play and that's the army that he will use.

Would anyone be willing to build a 500 point Chaos Marine list that uses all the Dark Vengeance models? It mainly will come down to what mastery level is best for the sorcerer, what gear to use, how to equip to chosen (though I'm considering WYSIWIG)

I really just don't know what is considered good for Chaos Marines.

*Note: I have some other models that I can include if they are really needed. Mainly a rhino, and some vanilla marines if needed.

Thanks
-Rabid

Regard Chosen as Aspiring Champions for your squads. You can still use the 2 bolter ones to fill regular CSM, Plague Marines, Noise Marines, Thousand Sons or Havocs. You maybe able to use some as your Lord in power armor instead of Kranon. I would not advise taking them unless you have a very good reason since they do not have infiltrate or out flanking anymore.

I would recommend:

Lord, MoN, Double Lightning Claw (use that wolverine chosen)-95 for 1 LC or maybe 110 for 2?

Plague Marines(Paint them green or put green stuff on them on belly and places), 2 Melta guns (look for convert flamer to melta gun tutorial or buy melta guns), Pow Axe (Use Chosen with the Axe), Rhino, Havoc Missile Launchers-202

Cultist+10, No upgrades, ignore autoguns-90

Hell Brute, Lascannons (put straws into the multi-melta and put gargoyle heads at the tip)-110 (Errata to base 95pts so its 110 with LC)

497 total.

Work towards getting more CSM which can be inter changed into Plague Marines. Also it think the Pow Fist are better than a Pow Axe+Meltabomb for 5 more pts on a Plague Marine. Otherwise i put pow axe and meltabomb on things which are Initiative 4 or more. Trust me, you will love playing with Plague Marines since they are so durable and forgiving.

Since you have 20 Cultist, just use them as the 90pt filler and put them in reserves so they do not get shot at turn 1.

If you want to take the points up to about 1000 then you could convert the Dark Angels. This could be as simple as taking a knife to the imperial eagles and crossing them out or as complicated as green stuffing over them.

Anywho, the Chosen are a huge point sink, use them as champions as mentioned above, put all the cultists in 1 squad and use them as meat shields for your Lord/Chaos Marines.

Good Luck

Great, thanks for the advice guys!

I'm pretty sure I know what I'm going to do now, and I never would have guessed just how much of a points sink the Chosen are.

He likes Khorne and Tzeentch, so with that in mind I think I've got a pretty good idea of what he can use.
