All right, I am a Blood Angels player and am going to be playing a buddy who is trying out the new Daemons, and he is running the following (Flyer spam list):

HQ:

Bloodthirster with Greater Rewards

Lord of Change with Greater Rewards

TROOPS:

2 x 10 Plaguebearers

HEAVY SUPPORT (all Tzeentch from the Lord of Change):

3 Daemon Princes with warpforge armour, daemonic flight, L2 psycher (biomancy)

So, I've got FIVE monstrous flying creatures coming at me, which just happen to be Daemons, which is an army I've never played before. What are the main threats to me coming from these dudes?

I've got to try to figure out how to stop these 5 monsters from destroying my Blood Angels, probably by destroying them first. So, I'm thinking of going heavy with the Lascannons, using my Predator Annihilator, LC Razorback, and 2 Devastator squads, and maybe bringing my Stormraven to give me a little more fire support. I could use an Aegis Defense line with Quad gun. What about HQ? Should I go with Mephiston and hope he can toe to toe it with these monsters?

Otherwise, it looks like I need to try to kill his Troops, and hope that I can seize and hold some objectives before he rips me apart?

Thoughts?

Could you put an abbreviated version of your list up too? It'd help with ideas.
I too have been encountering FMC spam a lot, but guard has quite an easy time against them, so I sort of know how they play.

Okay, here's my basic thought, though I haven't made a list yet as I just set up this game today. So the points might not work out exactly like this.

- Librarian HQ

Elite:

- 8 Sternguard veterans with 5 combi-meltas in a drop pod

- 2 Sanguinary Priests

Troops:

- 10 man Tac Squad with MM & Meltagun (or should I go plasma route?)

- 5 man Tac Squad in a Razorback with LC

Heavy:

- Predator Annihilator

- Stormraven

- Devastator squad with LC/PC behind an Aegis line with a Quad gun

If I have room, I might consider some Snipers to try to Snipe those bad boys and try to hold onto an objective?

What do you think?

A quick analysis makes me think your list should be OK vs FMC spam. One thing to remember is that T1 is when FMCs are most vulnerable. If you can land your sternguard pod and rapid fire the 2+ to wound rounds that FMC won't be in the air, won't have psychic buffs and will have to take a lot of invulnerable saves. With that many FMCs I'd probably combat squad them and risk my luck with trying to kill two if I got turn one. However that may not be advisable.

Twinlinking is good. You're going to have to make snap shots, so you might as well get to reroll them. However, try to focus on grounding the FMC with bolters before you resort to lascannons.
The Stormraven will help a lot. Against MCs with invulnerables (and fliers in general) I think the assault cannon is better. You might consider using this to try to ground first since it can still do damage.

Plague bearers are rather annoying if you have nothing that ignores cover. Those sternguard are going to be very important after their initial alpha strike.

If that Lord of Change is actually Fateweaver, he is horribly hard to kill, but incredibly important. If you can down him fast those warpstorms become far more unstable. However he's impossible to kill once he's buffed up and flying.

I think you're rather low on troops, it's so very easy to forget how BA has a horribly low model count.

Okay, here's the actual list costed out to 1751 points:

Epistolary HQ
1 10-man Tac squad with MM and Meltagun
1 10-man Tac squad with MM and Meltagun, in a Land Raider Crusader
2 Sanguinary priests
8 Sternguard, 5 combi-meltas, in a Drop Pod
Predator Annihilator
Devastator Squad of 6, 2 LC, 2 ML with an Aegis Line with a Quad Gun (extra guy for the Quad, with the Sergeant free to use his Signum to help it out)
Stormraven (no hurricane bolters, but MM instead of Heavy bolter)

The points are right, and I have a lot of shooting to take down the big monsters, including a little bit of twin-linkage for snap shots. So a couple of questions I still have are: should I drop the Devastator Squad for another Predator Annihilator (3 more LC shots, one twin linked)) and throw the other tactical squad behind the Aegis line? Should I take Corbulo instead of the 2 Sanguinary priests? Is the land raider useless? (I am thinking its bolters might be able to ground a flyer, and its twinlinked assault cannon is useful as is the MM I put on top, and it can protect my scoring unit.) Am I still too light on troops?

Anyway, let me know what you think. I would also love any Daemons players to let me know what they see as coming at me--I have looked at the Daemons codex so I know the Bloodthirster is hard core, but how hard are the 3 daemon princes going to hit my vehicles? It's not Fateweaver, by the way, so that's good, but I still anticipate some nasty Psychic damage coming my way, and the Warp Storm table doesn't look fun at all. How scary is my buddy's list? Or is it spam-y?

Thanks to all!

Forget tailoring. Try to make a TAC list and see how that fares. That's the problem with BA.
