When I was a kid my parents found two of the old school starter kits for brets and lizardmen for like $10 a piece at a salvage store (my buddy and I both got 2 each - and swapped back and forth over the years). While looking through some stuff I found the old boxes and while not complete they are still mostly intact for the lizardmen. Has anyone done any converting work on lizardmen to a 40k model? I know the universe is different for fantasy and 40k but it seems like it could be interesting.

Since they are the old school starter set I cannot work around poses very easily = /

Tau seems like they could work out lore wise but with the poses it seems so so .... lizard firewarriors maybe but idk.

I was thinking about trying to convert them to orkz ... I already have the assault on black reach orks so I could mix and match sets for a horde army. (at some point I want a army that can cover the table .... 30 model boyz units sounds like it could do the trick). With Orkz I can see alot more possible options for conversions too.

Anyone seen any ork converting done with lizardmen or have thoughts about it?

I played a guy in a tournament once that did a Lizardmen army using Ork rules. It was ok I guess, wasn't super impressed by it or anything, just piles of Saurus with guns and stuff. Like you are thinking he said that fluff wise they were Tau allies, but for me it was just another game against orks.

If you wanted to you could run a Tau army with the Saurus as Kroot. But if you want a whole army of the then Orks might be the best bet.

Sometimes, you just gotta take something cause the model is freakin cool...

Somewhere around here is a jaw dropping lizardmen/space marine conversion. I'll try to find it.

There's a better dakka dakka thread on the same force and it shows the entire CSM force. But that blog should get you started.

Lol I was thinking of doing this myself. I wouldn't worry about fitting them into the lore, just make your own lore for them and just worry about the rules.

Since my two armies are Lizardmen and Orks, well, naturally I've thought about how well they'd work out as Orks. Nobs or Slugga Boys would make good Saurus Warriors, Grots could possibly be Skinks (the stats are right but they lack a decent weapon), dreads and kans could be dinos, bikers and Nob Bikers could be cold one riders, Warbosses could be Oldbloods... and I guess maybe warpheads or Zogwart as Slann or Skink Priests? Maybe even a Big Mek, using a 'forcefield' spell or a sort of magic missile represented by the SAG.

You could ally them with another faction as well - honestly, Dark Eldar would make for some mean Skinks, Chameleons, and so on, and I'm sure that you can find a suitable Slann somewhere (psykers aren't really my specialty)

Also have you thought about Tyranids? They have a big fat caster, lots of potential Saurus stand-ins, big monsters to run as dinosaurs and Termagaunts could probably sub in for Skinks.

My brother head swapped all the Tau XV8 suit with saurus warrior head with eye-trackers/ headsets...Every Shas'ui firwarrior got head swapped with skinks (and pathfinders I think).. And yes unsuited saurus as kroot would go well (though little bro seems to think kroot are the tool of satan..) overall looks good, depends on how long you can take to convert them... (Turning them to orks would be pretty painful considering how many you need to make to be competitive)

I've also seen others make the vehicles lizardmen.. Ie triceratops with railguns.. You can do kroxigors with armour for XV88 broadsides.. Pterosaurs for piranhas... Chameleon's for stealth suit.. That at toad for Aun'Va (ethereal on floating thingy) And there's prolly unlimited ways to do a riptide... Just throwing some ideas out there
