Freaky Flayed One

Hey guys!

First post here. I've been a user at LO and Warseer for a very long length of time, and though I'd heard about DakkaDakka before, I never knew it was such an active forum!

Anyway - I took a look through the first few pages and though I found similar threads, nothing exactly like what I want to know.

My question is: Choose a unit that is less than optimum for whatever reason. Bad synergy, underpowered, etc. How would you change it or make it viable? Would you replace it altogether for something that fits better?
There are no wrong answers here - go nuts if you want! Everything is opinion and personal taste.

For instance:

Flayed Ones -

These units are the red-headed step child of a codex otherwise known for very decent stat-lines.
I'd love it if GW had made them more viable - specifically as a disruption unit. Whereas Necrons have plenty of strong units that can win by sheer force, lacking wargear they don't have many units that make the other player's plans crumble other than simply wiping things off the board.

WS 4 BS 1 S5 W1 I4 A3 Ld 10 Sv 4+

Only a minor bump in initiative. It seems odd to me that Necrons with their own motivation (albeit, insane) and with enough finesse to flay flesh off the bone have the same initiative as lumbering, mindless soldiers. When I think of Flayed Ones, I envision the same rapid, crazy mentality as a Eversor, if not the same chemically-enhanced reflexes. This is given relevance in the codex as well, stating "When the moment to attack comes, Flayed Ones strike without hesitation".
The additional strength comes at a compromise between power weapons or just hitting harder. I feel power weapons would be a bit much, but an increase in strength allows them to pray on massed units with low toughness, which I feel should remain their primary purpose.

Special Rules: Deep Strike, Infiltrate, Reanimation Protocols, "That Body Just Moved.."

TBJM: When deep striking, a pack of Flayed Ones may appear without scattering, touching base with a unit that has received casualties equal or higher than the number of Flayed Ones. They may assault on this turn.

Praetorians:

+1 W
Rod of Convenant becomes Assault 2

Simply because as an elite troop competing with Lychguard, they deserved the additional wound, and since 6" is such paltry range, I feel they deserve to hit a bit harder.

Remember:

These are just personal opinions. Post what you'd love to see!

Shining Spears:

I would give them more attacks (2 + 3 for the exarch) and some kind of Lance Strike rule similar to Dark Eldar Bladevanes. I would say something along the lines of 1 attack per model at full strength and ap on a unit the spears have moved over in the shooting phase. Then they could assault another unit in the assault phase (or the same one). I would also give them plasma grenades.

Swooping hawks - Count them as flying infantry in the same way as flying monstrous creatures. Let them vector strike with haywire grenades. One large blast when they deepstrike per 5 models in the unit (or one blast but + 1 strength and ap if the unit is 10 models).
