After careful reading of the Tyranid codex, I realized that the Trygon Prime CANNOT take both Bio-electric Pulse AND Containment Spines.

On page 50 of the codex under the profile of Containment Spines it says:

" A Trygon Prime uses the following profile when firing its bio-electric pulse: Range 18" Strength 5 AP5 Assault 12 "

Keywords: "when firing its bio-electric pulse"

Therefore, The Bio-electric pulse is REPLACED by Containment Spines, not added to it.

Am I the only one has been playing with BOTH shooting profiles this whole time?

I mean its such a subtle difference that no one would really care, but now knowing the truth, I feel compelled to play with it correctly.

At least you caught your mistake and not an opponent

A fellow Nid player mentioned it to me and I was like "WHAAATTT???!"

After posting on another Trygon forum page, I think there are a lot of Tyranid players out there unaware of this.

I was honestly shocked when I realised how many Tyranid players did not know this, it's very clearly stated in the containment spines entry after all.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in space and flung him into the Warp, where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to real-space, and undo the evil that is Chaos!"

True, however in the Troop Selection in the back of the codex its a little more ambiguous. I have to admit I was a little sad. Its gun went from pretty awesome to mediocre. Oh well... still better to run instead of shoot with it.

My mate used this on me, the two attacks till I asked to read the codex and pointed out he was wrong!. It is a lot of dice from one model hence why I asked to see the codex

Its becuase the profile in the back of the codex does not replace Bio Elec pulse just adds the Cont. Spines in an upgrade. Its only suggested your not suppose to use both on the Trygon page IIRC

Edit; Trygon in army list section;

Weapons and Biomorphs:

  • Bio-Electric pulse

  • Bonded exoseleton

  • Scything talons (two sets)

  • Containment Spines (Trygon Prime only)

  • So you can see where the problem is. There is not replacement or 'Trygon only' on Bio-Elec Pulse in the army list section

You have to check page 50 for it to be specifically stated that the Prime use a different profile vs an additional profile.
