Just messing around with lists and wanted to come up with one using 2 LRC instead of one and a rhino. Then I felt like a unit of GH in a LRC needed some sort of pack leader. I also usually put Arjac and 4 WGT in a DP on the list but had no room this time. So, what do you guys think of this as is?
Rune Priest (CotS, TDA, SB, LL, JoTWW or MH) [In LRC with GH]
Wolf Guard Battle Leader (TDA, WC x 2, WTT)
Wolf Lord (Thunderwolf mount, 2x wolves, WTN, runic armor, TH/SS, SotBS, meltabombs)
Wolf Priest (Jump Pack, WTT, WTN, Runic Armor, BP) [attached to Sky Claws]
Troops
10x Grey Hunters (MotW, Wolf Standard, PF, PG x 2) [in LRC w/ Rune Priest]
10x Grey Hunters (MotW, Wolf Standard, PF, Meltagun, Flamer) [in LRC w/ WGBL]
Fast Attack
10x Skyclaw (MotW, PF, Flamer
3x Thunderwolf Cavalry (WC, 3x BP, 2x CCW)
Heavy Support
2x Land Raider Crusader

Lose the Skyclaws - get more Grey Hunters because you'll need to have someone who can capture an objective.
The wolf lord DOES NOT need a wolf tooth necklace. He already hits everything on a 3+ anyway. He also doesn't need meltabombs because 5 attacks (6 on the charge) with a S10 thunder hammer is way way way better than one S8 attack with armorbane. Nor does he need Saga of the beast slayer. Since you obviously plan to go after big nasties, take Saga of the Bear instead so that you have eternal warrior.

I love my Sky Claws! They did quite well in their first appearance as actual Sky Claws (been running them as GH)!
However, a third scoring unit would be good. In my last game, had I deployed correctly and not made the tactical errors I did resulting in one GH unit getting tar pitted by Chaos Termies, I may have been ok, it was also only a 1200 point game and a quite different list.
Anyway....
So, if I drop the Sky Claws and WGBL, and the bombs from the Wolf Lord I can:
Give Wolf Lord SotB, keep the necklace, and add a Wolf Tail Talisman
Take another 10 x Melta Flamer GH squad and stick it in a LRC, take the plasma GH squad and put them in a rhino by themselves.
Stick my Wolf Priest in TDA, give him a SB and SoWB and put him in the LRC with the GH.
Give all my TWC SS.

Don't keep the necklace on the wolf lord. It's a waste of 10 points. And the WTT is probably too. You'd be better off spending that 15 points on extra armor for your land raiders and that's a waste too. In fact - you should try to take as little wargear as possible.
In my last game, had I deployed correctly and not made the tactical errors I did resulting in one GH unit getting tar pitted by Chaos Termies, I may have been ok, it was also only a 1200 point game and a quite different list.
This illustrates my point about taking troops perfectly. Things like this will happen in every game. But if you have more troop units, it is much much easier to adapt to that bad situation when have more scoring units. If you only have two troops and one of them gets tar-pitted, then HALF of your scoring units are tied up. But if you have 4 scoring units and one gets tar-pitted, then you still have enough to claim 3 objectives - usually more than enough to win. You really need more troops - at 2000 points you need a minimum of four.
The other thing is that your Grey Hunters and their characters can't really fight effectively from the Land Raider. Sure they can get out and assault. But not if you keep moving your LR's only 6 inches so that they can shoot. Every turn that they spend loaded up in the LR is a turn that they are not shooting their plasma guns and bolters. On the other hand if they were in Rhinos, then they could move pretty far and still shoot both plasmaguns / meltaguns from the top hatch. Although I'll grant you that the Land Raider is about as close to indestructible as you can get in WH40K.
Remember - you don't have to make every one of your units a close combat death star. As Stalin once said, "Quantity has a quality of it's own."

Granted, another unit of GH would have helped, but my main issue in that particular game was poor tactical decisions via deployment and splitting forces.
I will admit 4 full GH squads at 2k isn't quite as boring as I expected, I will probably try it to see how it feels. I definitely prefer lists that are more fun and casual, while remaining effective, over tourney lists. While it doesn't leave as much room for creativity, the 4 GH unit list I came up with I think cell somewhere in between casual and tourney.
I really enjoy building different lists. I've noticed the few I've come up with lately are lacking the termie unit. I'm getting ahead of myself as I don't even own them yet, but I think I'll need to get them back in. It'll be interesting to compare them to the Sky Claws which perform far better than many here would have you believe. That is the unit I'd potentially drop if it came to that.
