Yup.

I'd been on-and-off thinking about what a new 6e Gaunts Ghost codex might look like for a good half-year now. After a Warseer member posted his thoughts and codex entries here (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showth...hosts-Facelift) it opened up the floodgate in me, resulting in a 6e style codex complete with cover page and nifty template designs. I tried to do something different with them, attempting to make something which is solely Tanith, yes including many character options, but also allowing for unique units being fielded in unique ways that gives this army character and charm outside of any other race.

I'll be setting up a v2 with more characters and tweaked rules once I've recieved sufficient input and done some playtesting.

So here you go:

You might want to reformat your rules. I can't imagine you'll find many people willing to sign up for a relatively unknown file sharing site, even if it's free.

I didn't realize one has to sign up. It didn't ask I sign up when I uploaded... But I understand, as I've stopped using Mediafire because it demands I sign-up. Would you object to a torrent?

I really have no clue when it comes to this sort of thing though, I would be fine with reading a copy and paste into the thread.

Because of the formatting it'd take quite a while to make it readable. Everything would be bunched up. However, I found a file host which doesn't demand sign-ups and I've updated the link above.

Ok I've had a look through and here's my suggestions. I've read all of the GG novels so my ideas are mostlyaround fluff rather than gameplay.
- Personally I'd change Woodsmen of Tanith to Move Through Cover (Forests)
- Hotshots should be Strength X if they're Snipers.
- You've forgotten to give Gaunt his Bolt Pistol, Camo Cloak, Flak Armour etc. To be honest I wouldn't mind him havint Eternal Warrior given the character.
- Feel No Pain 3+ is a bit much for Dorden. If you don't want him to make shooting attacks, why give him the Laspistol?

They're just a few ideas I came up with browsing through the first few pages.

I had first considered Move Through Cover for the rule, but then decided to use it for the Scouts benefit. I felt it made the scouts more interesting.

I set Hotshots like that as I wanted an option which would be more likely to kill T3 infantry. An alternative high-powered shot. I could make it so that the Hotshot wounds on a 3+ instead.

Actually, the stuff with Gaunt is an error. It somehow got erased while fiddling around with everything at the last minute. The next version will have that and all other errors fixed. And for the purpose of this codex, I have him armed with two bolt pistols

I agree on Dorden and already changed it to 4+ for the next version. As for the las pistol, it's simply for character. He does carry one even if he doesn't use it. It's superfluous, but hell, why not.

Always cool to see another's take on it.

Anyway, there's a few issues I have with it. Primarily I feel that nearly everything is undercosted. Basic guy at 5pts, he's a normal IG guy but with a camo cloak and krak grenades, so I think they should be around 7-8pts each. Also there's a massive amount of special characters that make it quite daunting to be honest. It may be best to pick out a few key ones like scout sergeant mkoll and corbec. I also think the majority of these guys are significantly undercosted such as the commissars. Regular IG ones go for 35pts, these guys are less and bring even more, particularly Hark. Units like the tanith ghosts also seem quite crazy as well at 10pts with base 2 attacks and how the special rules stack.
With the unit stacking it makes for a bit of book keeping which can be tedious for some and its difficult for the opponent; who presumably isn't familiar with the codex, to follow. Demo charges seem to be available in abundance at only 10pts, but outside of that it would be a struggle to combat vehicles. With no lascannons or melta there's quite a setback against heavy vehicles with only missile launchers to glance and the demo charges to try and get close. With no vehicles of their own, it really limits to build options of the army to being solely foot based. So probably a horde. I know its not particularly 'fluffy' but I would advise to put something in there. They do use chimeras at times in the books so could add these in. Although I get that tanks could be allied in like Grizmunds attachment or whatever, I dont think its a good idea to force it so vehicles can only be allied in and not taken in the regular army.

If your attack is going too well, you have walked into an ambush

The easy way is always mined

Many of your considerations are things I wrestled with for some time while coming up with the basic concepts. Should the list be tactically flexible or fully fluffy? Ultimately I decided to stick to a fluffly list. I reduced the cost of some basic things (troopers, mostly) in order to balance the lack of melta/lascannons. Same with the krak grenades, although I could take them out of Infantry Squads.

After making a couple army lists I have come to agree that many of my characters are undercosted. I dipped the pts on Hark a bit to make up for the lack of Commissars, but now I'm thinking the army has enough morale-bonus rules that this reduced pts cost is not needed. In 2K pts, without allies, I was able to afford all but a handful of the characters with a massive horde list. In V2 I'll be increasing the pts of things over the board, but the focus will be more on the characters and perhaps the Ghosts/Scouts.

I also made an error where the allied detachments are concerned, and that was to allow the player, if selecting Imperial Guard allies, to select 0-2 Heavy Support or 02 Fast Attack (though not both) if taking allies, allowing for a wider range of allied Guard support.

As for the characters, I actually consider the special characters to be the heart of the Tanith army. They win the day at any time because of a unique character trait which balances the tactical purpose of the regiment. This is what sets the Ghosts apart from the majority of regiments, and see's them as one of the best on the field. But it is daunting to read through pages of characters. I think I've found a way to have my cake and eat it too. In v2 I'll leave only the basic characters in the main army list, and then after Heavy Support I'll have an "Additional Characters" list. That way the characters become less of a burdon on readers

I do want to release many built-up versions of this codex. I'd like to add new characters, but I want to expand this with an "Sabbat Worlds Allies" section allowing the player to field allies from the Sabbat Crusade instead of normal codex allies. I'd like this to be how the Tanith get their flexibility. I'd like to make it so complete it would allow for fantasy circumstances, such as the Ghosts fighting alongside Warmaster Slado. I'd also like to include scenarios and other tidbits.
