Subject: what can 'get around' stealth?

Cygnar Long Gunners UA Officer has a tactic called Ranked Attack. It allows me to channel all my units attacks through a single model in the unit. I take this to mean that I can slingshot a full unit's shots around cover, and as such only have to get one close enough to counter a model's stealth. Problem being, I cannot find anything that confirms this anywhere else, and the CRA rules say that any model out of range automatically misses. help?

As far as I can tell, you can't find anything to confirm what you're talking about because you've got the wrong rule.

The problem is this: "can slingshot a full unit's shots around cover, and as such only have to get one close enough to counter a model's stealth"
Ranked Attacks doesn't do that. Combined Ranged Attacks most explicitly doesn't do that.
I have no idea what rule does that at the moment, but it's not one of the two mentioned.

I think he's assuming that CRA doesn't require LOS maybe? I know I made that mistake when I started

As noted, you appear to be referring to Combined Ranged Attack ( CRA), not Ranked Attack. These are separate rules in WM/H, so just as a heads up you should be a bit more cautious on this or folks get confused.
carldooley wrote:... I take this to mean that I can slingshot a full unit's shots around cover, and as such only have to get one close enough to counter a model's stealth. ...
Don't assume mechanics based on fluff. All CRA does is add to the accuracy and damage roll of the model making an attack. It "negates" cover only in so much as you can compensate the +4 DEF that a model gains from it. (Again, cover is a system term, so needs to be taken into account).
carldooley wrote:... Problem being, I cannot find anything that confirms this anywhere else, and the CRA rules say that any model out of range automatically misses. help?
That's because they can't. According to the Combined Ranged Attack rule:
... After declaring all participants, check each one to see if a ranged attack made on its own would have automatically missed due to lack of range or a special rule. Models that would have automatically missed do not contribute to the attack and damage roll bonus but still forfeit their attacks. ...
The highlighted part is the immportant one. Stealth is a special rule that causes an attack to automatically miss. This would mean that while the primary target would still be in range, anyone who participated who was out of range to get around Steatlh would lose their attack and not contribute to the final CRA result.
And stuff.

Don't Gun mage magelock pistol attacks ignore stealth?
It's been a while since I played the game, but these were always seen as my usual cryx opponent's bane and his first priority target.
I only bought them because I liked their coachmen's cloaks and tricornes.

Not quite, their UA grants them the ability to ignore concealment, stealth, and I think one or two other things

Sorry for the questions and the confusion. I AM starting out, and while I have a couple games under my belt, myself and my opponents are still working out our strategies for our forces.

Don't worry too much, with as many rules as there are, it just takes time to sort them all out I was getting things mixed up for months myself.
As for what overcomes stealth, if you're having a problem with it, the gunmages with U/A (as mentioned) can help, or there are spells/abilities on quite a few casters to help out (Seige Brisbane, eCaine, Kraye ect.), or just take something that Auto-hits (Auto-hit trumps Auto-miss) or simply does a damage roll. Running up one of your own guys (preferably one immune to lightning) and hitting him with something like Chain Lightning or the electro-leap shots of Storm-Striders or Storm-towers can help clear stealth enemies out, and Storm Callers don't need to hit, so they don't worry about stealth.
Hope that helps a bit, and if you need some more strategies for overcoming stealth, let us know

Sprays ignore Stealth. Also, AOE attacks will automatically miss a model with Stealth like normal ranged attacks, but the AOE will scatter as normal from the model it was targeted at, and might still catch something with blast damage.

Indeed, and most things with Stealth will die to even blast damage.
Stealth is ignored by a few things. Sprays, Eyeless Sight, and anything that specifically ignores it.
Stealth also does not prevent charges, charge them if you want.

You being cygnar, stormcallers are an example of something which doesn't need to roll to hit, just doing a damage roll, and can affect stealthed models

While I do not have a direct page number the thing to remember about Warmachine is the way the rule is worded means everything. The rules for stealth state that any attacks made from greater than 5" automatically miss (unless of course they ignore stealth). The key to that statement is the word ATTACKS. Things such as Stormsmith Stormcallers do not make attacks they use abilities which in their own rules state that on successful action check the enemy model suffers a POW 10 dmg. roll. Because actions are not considered attacks unless they have the *(Attack) next to them they do not follow the targeting rules for stealth. They DO however follow the rules for other things meaning you DO need LOS in order to target an enemy with the Stormcall.
That being said ATGM + UA is hands down the best anti-stealth unit not only in Cygnar but arguably the entire game. With their high base RAT and snipe they can pick off Stealth models from a good distance. Not only that they also ignore camo and concealment so the only boost to defense your enemy will get is if they are in cover.
A thing to note with the CRA of Long Gunners, all models in the unit must be able to individually successfully target the model to participate in the CRA. If they are too far away from a stealth model than they cannot participate if they are out of range they cannot participate if they do not have LOS they cannot participate so on and so forth. As stated before the benefit of CRA pretty much makes the moving around cover to ignore it useless a 10 man CRA from long gunners has a RAT of 15. There isn't much need to worry about ignoring cover at that point.

Most of the abilities that cause an Automatic Hit are things that allow you to palm off hits from one model to another - things like shield guard, sacrificial pawn, that sort of thing that cause another model to be hit instead (and with the Auto hit part, they can't use stealth to then have the shot miss the new target). There are actually very few abilities that allow you to auto-hit an enemy. The Harbinger of menoth auto hits her Cataclysm spell and her melee attacks (good trick for a blind girl), the Bile Thrall's purge ability auto-hits (though as it's only 6" range, it's usually not an issue with stealth), Storm Blades can Auto-hit if their target has been hit with by their W/A (the storm-gunner). There are probably a few other effects around, but those are the ones I can think of.
Effects that simply cause a damage roll without having to hit are far more common. Things like Electro-leap, Chain Lightning, Ashes-to-Ashes, Admonisher, Storm Calls and Covering Fire, among many others.
