I will be starting a Space Wolf army for an upcoming escalation league this summer. I'm anticipating that it will be somewhat casual so I'm going for fluff. I have been swayed by Ragnar's drop pod assaults, so I plan to be 100% drop podding. Here is what I came up with for the first 500:

Wolf Priest- 100

Blood Claws x9, flamer, drop pod- 170

Grey Hunters x5, melta, drop pod- 115

Grey Hunters x5, melta, drop pod- 115

500 on the nose. The blood claws use the priest to maximize their CC effectiveness while the grey hunters exist to pop tanks and claim objectives.

Expanding to 1000 will look like:

Wolf Priest- 100

Venerable Dreadnought, saga of majesty, drop pod- 215

Blood Claws x9, flamer, power axe, drop pod- 185

Grey Hunters x10, melta x2, drop pod- 190

Grey Hunters x7, drop pod- 140

Grey Hunters x6, plasma gun, plasma pistol, drop pod- 150

The two small melta squads from 500 points combine in this list. The Dreadnought is there for leadership buffs, a bs5 assault cannon, and to draw fire away from the rest of the force. And it would look cool I think.

Any thoughts and suggestions?

Why take blood claws at all? Grey Hunters are better and cost the same. You can still put the wolf priest with them, only now they'll get to re-roll toHit and toWound when they shoot their bolters too.

On the 1000 point list you really don't need the dreadnaught to be venerable. If you insist on the dreadnought at all, just take the standard dread + drop pod and maybe a heavy flamer. It doesn't cost anything to switch out the assault cannon for a multimelta if you prefer that. That's only 140 points as opposed to 215. With the remaining 75 points you can do lots of stuff.

A plasma pistol is NOT worth 15 points. You'd be better off making that GH squad a 10 man and taking a plasmagun for free.

2500 pts
