Does anyone else think it would be awesome if watchers took to the field of battle alongside the DA in a little squad of 5 or something?

Nope. They are not named 'watchers' for nothing. They watch. They do not meddle. It would take away from their mystery if their power would be determined by a statline and a few special rules.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

Are watchers even battle worthy?

They're supposed to be pretty powerful psykers aren't they? Whilst it would be a bit cool, it'd be wrong. They are basically Daemons or at least Xenos, and any chapter, even a first founding, using squads of either of these will be swiftly getting a visit from the friendly local Inquisitor and his band of merry murderers.

No just no, It would make no sense at all to field them.

From what I understand Fluffwise. The Watches are just THERE. One of them will attach themselves to a promising warrior and the DAs just universally ignore them even as they carry around some of their nifty stuff.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

In the mediocre Horus Heresy novels with the Dark Angels, one of the characters talks to the Watchers, and they pretty much tell him that if he doesn't leave, they'll just stop his heart. They're supposed to be extremely powerful psykers, and they say they fight or contain chaos but don't really do much else. They're able to just turn invisible, and seem to be able to do what they want.

In summation, they are that kid on the playground that when you're all pretending to be superheroes, they say "I'm invincible is my super power."

Luckily for the non Dark Angles players, the obtuseness of such acute little critters doesn't come into play, cause they'd probably be high mastery level psykers. Probably why that perfidious relic or whatever adds adamantine will to the squad bearing it. the Watcher says he ain't gon watch yo psychic attack work.

This. They wouldn't be in the battle most likely, because they could probably win the battle without actually getting inside the area of it a game shows. They could just cause all the enemy soldiers to have heart-attacks and tanks to explode without lifting a finger. At least, that's the feeling I got from them.

"In summation, they are that kid on the playground that when you're all pretending to be superheroes, they say "I'm invincible is my super power." Or that kid who just says his super-power is the ability to make the rest of your super-powers not work

I was gonna correct you with Dark Angles, but then I read all the angle jokes and laughed

I always call them the Dark Angles at the GW I play at, and it's gotten to the point that the employees there call them Dark Angles too.

After all, with stubborn as an army wide rule, they're just so obtuse on the defense.

Who watches the watchers?

Also I don't think I'd like this, they have always seemed more of a fluff kind of thing, putting them down on the table to me is like letting an Ork player put down Gork or Mork.

Maybe not the best example, but to me, I just wouldn't.

Well its possible that their power allows them to shield themselves.

The Sensei have extremely powerful abilities and yet have no warp presence.

My apologies I have just finished painting a watcher for my company master and really enjoyed painting it, I know background wise it does not make much sense but i would love a litlle gang of them fighting in battle. A watcher does help loken escape in grey angel so they do more than just watch. They remind me of jawas.

It doesn't really fit the fluff. They are called watchers, and hence they watch (and open up doors in the rock). I think they would have about the combat efficiency of a garden gnome.

They're horrible I tell you! Horrible! I still have the nightmares. Its worse than my Frazzled's wiener dog dream! nswfhooshfaiopfhfhouihghap.....

Your fear inspires me. I am thinking Garden Gnome themed Grot army now. But back on topic, watchers, they carry stuff, whisper stuff, open stuff, and not that much else.
