A Predator with this loadout in my opinion is one of the best heavy support options we have. They're way cheaper than oblits and as destructive.

115 points: 2 Las Cannons and an autocannon shot. For the price you can't go wrong! Table range shooting, keep rear armor at table edge and if you're smart with positioning they're firing at AV 13 in the front most of the time.

Although for a small point increase you can grab a Maulerfiend - which is scary fast, rather resilient and brings S10 to the table too. So what is your CSM force lacking - ranged shooting or immediate pressure?

I feel that the pred story was from 5th ed. In 6th they're not as "needed" imo

We have so many necrons in my meta oblits are far superior. Deep strike behind for pens on the vehicles to make em easy to take out for everyone else. Also oblits are usefull in any situation. Vehicles- multimelta and lascannon, horde- heavy flamers, deepstrike terminator- plasma cannon, power armor- plasma gun, flyers- autocannon. Sure you pay more but they will always be useful.

Lascannons dont work for me as i found out recently and i love lascannons but for 5 points more i can get a vindicator with a HUGE possibilty to pen any vehicle and instant kill T5 units.. uh yes please 3 vindicator siege wall!

Following the massive nerf Havoc launchers took I don't think the Chaos Predator is a particularly attractive choice. Not when you have defilers, obliterators, vindicators, and maulerfiends in the same slot.

Well, Predators are a bit outdated with all the cover saves around. Oblits are more expensive but also more flexible to use and Maulerfiends are superior when to put pressure on the enemy.

And few things can mess up somebody's gameplan like three vindicators. He either has to devote an inordinate amount of force to stopping them or gives them free reign to start dropping demolisher cannon pieplates all willy nilly.

I used to run 3 LCAC preds for my Vanilla marines army.

It was 360 points.

6 lascannons is not much for 360 points.

Predators are still solid, but pretty far from auto include. I'd say you're more likely to be "doing it wrong" if you think predators are an auto-include, then if you happen to not have any in a particular list.

Agreed.

They can do a little bit for an army, and for CSM it's nice that they are heavy; since the only AI is in fast attack.

In many ways, I think the 95 point 2x Heavy Bolter/Autocannon Pred is the best option. So few armies these days rely on transports and armor. 6th is the age of infantry spam. If you are going to bother with a Predator, you may as well kit it to kill infantry.

However, I don't really see a point to taking one at all. Obliterators, Maulerfiends, Autocannon Havoks, and Vindicators are substantially better options. Even then, none of those choices are such an efficient auto-include as to make the claim that without them, one is "doing it wrong."

AV11 = does not require inordinate amounts of fire!

Ze joy of Ze Vindicator is its price for what it brings to the table. For the cost you get alot of boom that costs fairly little that needs to be dealt with- cheap target saturation

Preds are okay, but lack vs Hordes and their lack of speed is bad due to weird side sponsons that often need to re-position for shots. I like Obliterators and Maulerfiends. Obliterators are versatile and really hard to kill with MoN. Maulerfiends are just nice to tie things up with.

I like the TL Lascannon on my predator. The autocannon is rather meh since a havoc squad can carry a lot more firepower. People in the local meta have quit carrying a lot of antiarmor, though, and a predator sniping from across the table with the TL lascannon can really tear up their most expensive units. I don't take lascannon sponsons, I tak the heavy bolters. This is due to their antiinfantry firepower, as what WILL wreck them fast in this edition is a bunch of throwaway troops in melee with some nades.
