I am just wondering something, I looked in the BRB and couldn't find an answer to the questions I was pondering about Sponson Weapons
(In this case, my Chaos Predator)

Now originally I upgs the Predator to have 2 sponson Lascannons and 1 TL-Lascannon on the turret.

When directly facing an enemy (lets just say its an enemy tank for reasons of simplicity) How far away does the tank have to be from my Predator for BOTH my sponsons to be able to see it and subsequently able to fire at it? The Arc in the degree I know prevents the sponsons from aiming directly in front of the Tank, but eventually if the target is far enough, the LOS of said sponson can get LOS of the target. Im just wondering if anyone has a rule of thumb for this =/

Also, while on the topic, on several occasions where 1 sponson isnt able to see the original target the other weapons on the tank are targeting, can that said sponson target a different enemy unit/model?

Or is POTMS the only way to target different weapons at different targets ?

Well, it depends on the target, to answer your first question. Yes I know you said to assume a tank, but what tank? A monolith? A devilfish? Is the tank facing forward or sideways? Is it in cover? There is no direct answer that will cover all situations. Sorry, but your best answer is "use TLOS".

On your second question, no it can not and yes POTMS or similar is required.

The rulebook has an extremely clear diagram showing the arcs/LOS sponsons can draw, which can be "inward" a bit toward the tank but not over/through its own fenders/forward corners.

I'd say in the tank circumstance there's no better way to work it out than getting down to it's level and using TLOS. As Kevin said, the target varies greatly depending on its size and orientation: A Rhino facing forwards is a smaller target than one side-on for example, but in most circumstances the target may be too close for both sponsons to get a shot. As for your second question, unless you have a specific ability such as POTMS, then no, you can't target different units.

The distance the enemy is out from your tank matters a LOT in this case. If they're close, odds are that only one sponson can hit. Also remember that squads are often spread out and can easily let you hit them with both. With lascannons sponsons AND the TL LC turret there's no reason to be close to anything, though.
