Has anyone had a crack at laying down a protective matt varnish before a wash layer? What were the results? Does the wash run off or behave as normal?

The reason I'm asking is I have just primed and undercoated a Land raider and have a really smooth coverage and don't want to risk damaging it.

I'm using Army Painter spray varnish...

If you are going to varnish before a wash, most people i've heard say gloss or satin varnish and not matte.

the reason is because the wash flows better over satin or gloss, matte tends to grab and hold. it has a rougher surface to grab on to your little wash particles rather then let them flow.

I use washes all the time both before and after Testor's dullcote. There should be no real difference as the paint underneath is matte and so is the dullcote.
