Hey guys,
I'm just wondering if any of you noticed that the new(ish) abaddon black citadel paint tends to go on kinda oily?
Like the old chaos black used to be able to get a decent coverage with a thin layer, but abaddon just goes on akin to a really heavy ink for me..
If anyone has had this problem or knows of how to fix it, it'd really make my day.
Regards
Zaku

Sounds like you got part of a bad batch lad, it's a base so it should ideally be nice and thick. I only know how to thin paints, haven't a clue how to thicken them.

Try shaking it. Sometimes the thick bit sinks to the bottom.
After that try mixing it with a small stick.
If not, I'm out of ideas.

I've had all sorts of problems with the new citadel paint. I have a few projects I'm finishing up then I'm switching to something else.
-Abaddon black was oily and super super shiny despite shaking for 10 minutes.
-The whites have all been water thickness with cottage cheese style chunks in them, again despite shaking them for a while
-The warp stone glow I got beads up as you paint it sometimes and doesn't stick to primers.
The only thing that's worked as advertised/good is the texture paint which is so overpriced for what you get it's silly. The only thing I can recommend is return the pot of paint and hope the next one is good.

Huh. All I've had with my paints is that they all chip off really easily until:
Please excuse the outburst, I'm currently looking at my Heldrake. It's annoying as feth.

Same problem here. I hate abaddon black.
It doesn't cover much (wich is stupid for a "base" range paint) and even worse, it chips easily if you rub the model.
I have bought 2 pots have the them problem with them both. And I paint models for years so it's not a problem of shakink, thinning or so. >____<

Well you can always use vallejo black, either model color or game color. Both of them cover excellently and with a little matt medium they get, well totally matt .

All I can say about painting is that VMC tastes much better than VMA... especially black...

Yeah I had one for awhile. Left it in storing for about 6months than i went to use it and it was super sticky and all that. I would recommend another paint company but I get flamed everytime I do lol.

Really don't want to sound like a nostalgia riddled eejit, But I really loved the way chaos black went on, and just the lovely clean finish i could almost always get with it.
Now i just got this icky oily ooze and white paints that do indeed go like cottage cheese.. and never mind the metallics that look like someones brought their goldschlager back up when left for longer than 10 mins

Use revell oil based model paints, sure you have to use mineral turpentine or other such thinners, but they give a great effect, go on thin but with good cover.
Much better than acrylics in my experience. Automatically Appended Next Post: Use revell oil based model paints, sure you have to use mineral turpentine or other such thinners, but they give a great effect, go on thin but with good cover.

To thicken you would add a medium that is of a higher viscosity

Maybe I just missed the really good paints but, I'm finding it the opposite. I wasn't painting for years only to find my collection had dried up (I left it in a closet basically right next to a moisture absorber ) and had to throw them, they were a mixture of the old hexagonal flip tops and then the hexagonal screw tops they moved to.
And when I started painting again recently with the new range I found it much better than I remember the old stuff being.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.
