I have been looking into getting some Imperial Guard Forge World Products recently and I was wondering how accepted is the use of Forge World? My friends are okay with me using them, but do you think I will be able to use them at my local Games Workshop or at local tournaments? They are pretty expensive so I want to be sure that i can use them if i am going to buy them.

The real answer to this question is: You're asking in the wrong place. If you want to know about local use, ask the people who are local. Not random internet denizens.

On the other hand, if you think they look cool, why the hell not? In the end it's just more plastic army men that we all love.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Yeah, it's all based on region. If your friends are cool with FW, go for it, but if none of them want to play with it then i'd certainly advise against it.

Usually tournaments allow the models but often ban tthe use of rules. However you may be able to bypass this if you have the correct rules.

I play with a lot of FW models but hardly ever use the special rules. This is almost always acceptable because FW is owned by GW. To use the rules you would def need to ask.

This. FW rules are part of the game according to GW, but "no FW" is a house rule that some people have for various reasons (just like all kinds of other house rules, like "don't play netlists" or "no more than one flyer per 1000 points"). The only way to find out if a given group will have that house rule or not is to ask them.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

A new day, a new time zone.

I've never actually heard anyone, anywhere say, 'You're using those neat looking guys instead of regular guardsman? No way I'm allowing that! You better use plastic or nothing!" Using variant models or special rules (the forge world drop pod that lets you assault out of it with a dreadnought come to mind) are another matter entirely, for various reasons, and for that you're going to need to talk with your actual opponents about it.

Most folks are also ok with the rules. Heck around here I am using scratch-built using forge world rules for tournaments and it's considered totally cool, as long it's properly made.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

If it has the "40k Approved" stamp, it's because you can use it in regular 40k games. People only hate the FW rules and models because they aren't using them (I understand why, they are expensive as frak).

All my tournaments have been FW friendly, but in the end, you are better off asking in your FLGS. They can have a house rule of "No FW models".

I can use FW units and rules at my local club (in fact, a fair few of the gamers there do).

I personally have my eye on 1-2 warp hunters and a few hornets for my eldar force, but that all depends on how the eldar codex pans out.

If your wallet can handle it, yes. They're great models. Gaming groups are becoming more and more accepting of Forgeworld rules as well, which is good since it only introduces more variety and more cool models to the game.
