Through the looking glass

I've next to no experience fighting one, and here soon enough I'll be facing a cryx kraken. My google fu is weak, as I Can't find much of anything on the topic of how to approach something like that. I'm playing circle, and I'm fairly familiar with what my army can do, but to the best of my knowledge I treat it like I treat other warjacks. Buff up, get in there and tear into it, then get out. A warpathed primaled stalker can average like 46 hit boxes off of it per turn, but I just feel like I'm missing something here in regards to what I should be doing as opposed to what I think I'm supposed to do, and that's run up and bash it.

Generally two heavies will be able to tear down a colossal. You can also take the Rogue Alchemist if you just want to lock it down. They're still subject to things that affect jacks and beasts. Not much else to say about it really. It's just a big jack in the end.

Generally two heavies can take a Colossal/Gargantuan, or even some super-beatstick heavies on their own.

Armor de-buffs are amazing against them.

Weapon masters make them cry too.

Also, any massed Infantry with decent anti-jack capabilities (Sword Knights, Stormblades, Bane Thralls, etc.) will give it problems- it's large base means that it is very easy to get numbers to bear on it, and then the damage starts to climb fast.

Mulg.

I know that isn't super helpful in your case. But Mulg.

Teleport in a Wold Guardian on one side and charge with a Stalker on the other.

Dead Gargossal.

I think.

A Garlossal is just a heavy jack/beast with twice as many damage boxes. They don't have insanely high armor, they don't have insane damage outputs for their cost.

A unit of Ignited Vengers wrecks a Stormwall on average dice.

Hit it with a couple heavies and it will go down.

You can use their huge base to your advantage. Jam it with spread out infantry and it will have issues moving. Tramples still have to take you to where you can fit your base, you can't end on top of other models. Walls also will block its movement partially.

I tend to play eButcher Tier 4, so I generally don't have too much of an issue with Gargolossals.

I've only faced gargossals twice but in both instances, Deathjack & Behemoth did the job - although Deathjack did take a mauling in it's encounter

*shrug*

Pre gargossals, could your army take on 2 jacks in a turn, and wreck them? chances are, yes. ghetorix, stalkers, ferals, and primal. throw in curse of shadows if available and bang, dead collossal.

if you could do that, you can take on a gargossal. they dont have better armour - just more hitpoints (about a jack and three quarters worth). So yeah, its two jacks masquerading as one. apply previous tactics. win.

Squatting with the squigs

most important thing you can remember about the kraken is it has 4" reach ONLY in it's activation, I haven't faced one but that sounds like one of those rules that people "forget"

That's beneficial to both sides though really as it means that everything outside of 2" falls back out of combat when it's done opening them up for easy shooting.

you can pretty much shoot at them anyway, i think remembering this rule right is more important for free strikes.

Kaya2 can do it. So can Morv2 using Primal'd Stalkers. In general the key is removing any buffs that may stop you from killing them. In the case of Cryx, be careful of who the caster is. Skarre2, Denny1/2, Mortenebra, and Gaspy3 all have some good tricks for the Kraken that can make things a challenge.

best way to fight them? Read the rules closely ahead of time so you know what they can and cannot do.

Otherwise they are just big jacks/warbeasts with lots of boxes.

And the 4" reach does not apply to the sweep attack. Another common "Mistake".
