I know how to strip paint btw, but my last experience with detol left a horrible smell and layers of sticky paint that ruined everything I tried to clean it with, so not my desired results at all. Does anyone in the UK know of a better alternative to a easy and straight forward method and or stripping/cleaning product that works better than detol.

Thanks for any help in advance, Joshua

If I could be so bold, here's a link to a similar thread I created - several people put up solutions so I guess you may find one that suits you. I would draw your attention to Biostrip20 - never tried it, but, as talked about in my thread, it seems to be a good product - i'll probably get myself some soon!

best stuff i have ever seen. Makes simple green look like water. Stripped multiple layers of paint off plastic and metal without even scrubbing. Most models it stripped everything, while a few the black primer wouldnt come off entirely, but thats fine. 3+ layers all gone in one 3 day long soak.

Only complaint was that you cant leave finecast in there for days at a time or they become a bit soft. Not something that you would really notice, but my eldar Warlocks's swords now bend slightly easier than before.

Edit: also, you can find it at dollar stores. Its that cheap.

Fairy Power Spray. Sorted.

Acetone free nail polish remover is what I'd recommend. £1.49 for a 250ml bottle fro superdrug;you can order it online, it does smell a little but no- where near as bad as dettol. I have tried the biostrip 20 and it does work; the trick with it is to use a hard bristles brush to remove the paint. But try acetone free nail polish remover first.

Fairy power spray for metal miniatures; I've had mixed results with plastics and fairy power spray - it's been getting the paint off but not as easily as detol.

Back in the detol for plastics, just make sure it's really clean and scrubbed with detol before dunking it in water just to remove the final detol scum.

I've avoided nail remover after trying it a long time ago and it ate away details at the edges of old lead miniatures.

Hell no. Dettol is nasty. Fairy Power Spray all the way.

Dettol disinfectant.

Just dont put water near it! water and detol react to make that 'sticky substance'.
You simply have to have another jar of it at the side to dip clean them while you scrub.
Wear gloves.

And just put them in a bowl of hot soapy water when your done and that will clean the detol off without adding the sticky substance.

Dettol is by far the best stuff ive come across imo. Plus its cheap, can be washed down a sink, doesnt lose detail and isnt toxic like most paint strippers. Just gota use it right
